3.6 conversion pics

I am gathering parts to install a 3.6 into my 86 911.

The engine is a 95, non-varioram. I also have a shortened G50 on the way.

I am looking for pics of the conversion to help guide me along.

Things like the engine installed, the engine all built and ready to install, trans cross member, pedal box etc...

Show us how you solved all the various little issues that crop up.

Thanks

This conversion has been stalled for quite a few months while other projects took priority, but I am actually considering dropping the 3.2 this weekend and taking it the next step.
I haven't necessarily done everything by the easiest or most direct route 'coz I just love tinkering and trying different things, but there might be a few areas of common interest.

I'll get things started.

Here's how I reinforced the engine cross member to take the extra load.

Here's some pics from this mornings activities.

I had the engine cradle sand blasted and had just started squirting it with primer when I noticed a crack.

So I drilled and ground it out and welded it shut.

Then I decided to add some reinforcing

That should do it.

Would suggest a WEVO carrier bearing upgrade for those using a 915 trans. G50 has one already.

Chris. Do you think you'll have this motor installed and ready for the Indy DE?

Not in April, but likely in November!

I solved the issues of putting a 1995 3.6 in my 1984 911 with my check book, so I might not be able to offer a lot of help. I'm installing this today:

Who build that nice engine cross member?
I just bought a 88 Coupe with 993 engine.
My cross member looks a little bended, probably the G50 was not shortened...

Crossmember

Thanks for the Info!
Now I might find some time working on the car.

My crossmember is bended like a banana (approx 1inch) and I am thinking to change this.
The main reason, I have a lot of engine/gearbox noise in the car.
Its getting more when the engine gets warm.
I think that there might be some tension on engine and gearbox mounts.

Wouldnt`t it be better to build a engine crossmember wich fits to the mounting points, instead of bending the original one?

Further I saw that there are spacers used between the crossmember and the engine mounts on some conversions.
Whats the reason to lower the engine?

thanks
Falk

Here you go

Finally registered with Pelican- Introduction

I used Instant-G with great results and support.
BTW, that's only the beginning. After that, you'll be looking for transmission upgrades, brake upgrades, suspension upgrades and of course then comes the roll bar, harnesses and seats.......... Lovin' every minute of it!!

One of the problems you encounter is spacing. The 3.6 w/ G50 (even a shortened one) is a bit longer than the original package. Most just bend the rear engine mount a bit and call it a day. Some clearance the torsion tube, and use a modified 915 transmission mount to move the new package forward. Patrick Motorsports makes a transmission mount w/ slotted bolt holes so you have a range to mount the transmission. If you want to keep your torsion bars (I would for a street car) it gets pretty tight space wise. If you go to coil overs, hack away, but be aware that you will have to modify your shock towers to accommodate the extra load. Why not keep your 915 transmission, it would simplify things, and I think for a street driven car they are up to the task.

I have a 1974 With 3,6 anf G64, also had to bend the rear crossmember approx an inch, this make correct fit to rubber around the engine towards body...also: every millimeter forward is good for car handling!
