Porsche at the Detroit International Auto Show
I was able to spend a few hours at the Detroit auto show today and the Porsche display so I thought I would share a few pics. Apparently the big announcement for this show is the new Targa. Although I have an 81 Targa and it is a fun car, I am not all that big of Targa fan. That being said I thought the new model looks very good and I have to believe the body flex and the top fit are many times better today than they were in 81.
They also had a couple Mecans and a good engine cut away of the V6 Mecan engine, a Cayman, a Turbo, some Cayans and a 918 under glass (and probably others I have not mentioned). All in all not too bad of presentation & presences. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yea, the Targa looked great and the entire Porsche exhibit was well done. The 918 still seems a little pricey at $980,000, however. On the other hand, the scale model in the glass case can be purchased for $8,000. I guess that's a deal...

I got to see the targa top mechanism in action on Monday. Pretty neat. I'm still not sold on the overall design though.

Do you have a picture of the macan v6 turbo? I've also seen s lot of FSI VR6 turbo engine photos leaked recently...

Not a fan of that drowned-corpse-grey interior six shots down, but overall I really like the new Targa. I'd still have the coupe, but I really like the incorporation of the classic roll bar and wraparound rear glass. They pulled it off better than I was expecting; it doesn't really appear"retro" at all, I think it actually looks quite modern.

Spyder.
During a recent factory visit, we were advised that Color To Sample for the Spyder
is 40,000 Euros. Gerry

That's actually a pretty neat car. I agree, the traditional Targa bar adds a nice touch. Is the top still foldable vinyl, or a different design/mechanism? Great pictures as well.

The new Targa looks interesting and nice, but it just doesn't have the "OMG, I've got to have it".
Maybe it will grow on me, but if I were in the market for a car right now, I would pick, at the low end the 911S and at the top the Turbo.

I wonder if the targa rear roof line is too sanitary? There have been lots of comments on it and it seems like people are looking for more.
Compared to an original targa, I am wondering if more would mean a slightly less sanitary more quirky rear glass angle? I wonder if the new targa is suffering the same fate as the girls who starred in dirty dancing? She got a nose job after that movie and vanished into obscurity...

Maybe the new Targa will become a star on Top Gear. I'm sure with his "love" for Pcars, Jeremy Clarkson will drool over it! Don't hold your breath.

My issue is that the Targa isn't a Targa. It's just a half cabrio with a really intrusive tonneau cover.
