Re-Use Wheel Studs After Hammered Out?
Hi,
Hoping for some help. I removed my long wheel studs from my 944 with the hammer/nut method. Can I re-use these on my 911 w/3.6? I am concerned about the impact of the hammer causing stress? Thanks for any help. |

I don't see why not. They are only pressed in.

As long as you did not damage the threads, you should be fine to reuse.
I did.

Thanks for the replies. It is good to know that I may not have to buy new studs.

Next time you hammer them out, use something different as a sacrificial hammering piece. With the nut, you're hammering on the threads. Instead, use a piece of block aluminum or a brass rod. Something "soft" that doesn't damage the stud
Granted, the end threads on the stud typically aren't that important since the lug nuts aren't bearing on those end threads. But if you booger the threads, it makes threading the nuts a pain and then you gotta run a thread die or thread repair file on them to clean them up

Thanks to all who replied. Great news to not have to buy them again.
