Throttle Linkage R & R Tips?
My throttle was sticking at 3000 rpms so I ordered a complete set of replacement parts (i.e. bushings, bell crank, rods, ball joints, etc) and decided to replace it. SoI removed the old linkage and am ready to install the new one. Is there anything I should know prior to beginning this project? Any hidden pitfalls awaiting me?

I've played around with the linkage in my SC and my T for two reasons-to set it up better for heal and toe and to make sure I was getting full throttle when the gas pedal is all the way down. (There was a recent thread here about how people have checked their linkage and found they weren't getting full throttle.)
Considering the complexity of the linkage I would think your best bet would be to replace one piece at a time, matching the adjustments exactly to what's already in there. Only start adjusting once all the pieces are in and working-one change in one place affects all the others. A helper will make a big difference too, you'll be able to watch the linkage work and figure out why it's binding before you start replacing anything. Good luck Todd |

Janus, you should definitely check out the thread Todd is talking about.

When I was dropping my engine in June, we had a b!tch of a time getting that ball joint at the bell housing undone. Bentley's made no mention of the fact that there is a very tiny pin that holds the socket over the ball. We bent it pretty badly until I saw that pin. Then it came out with no problem.

Excellent !! Thanks very much for the advice and the link to Leland's "Free HP" thread. Turns out the throttle was sticking due to ball and socket being rusted solid at an oddball angle. I didn't bother fixing them...I just replaced them with new stuff from Pelican. Also found there were NO bushings in the tunnel...sheesh !! This and other boners prove my car's PO was a total moron. Sometimes I think people should have to pass a test before purchasing a Porsche. But then I realize I'd fail !!
So in conclusion, I took your advice, read up, and popped the new linkage in no problem. One of the few "Sunday Afternoon" car repair jobs that actually lasted a single afternoon !!! Weee...I also threw some moly grease into the bushings before installation and now I can report the throttle is silky smooth. Like butta. Thanks !! ![]()
