Porsche Pits at Daytona

Porsche went with an all white theme this year at Daytona. All of the cabinets, driving suits and chairs were the same exact shade of white. And we wonder why racing costs so much?

Me too. I can't imagine the markup though just to have PORSCHE emblazoned on it.

well, I guess its obviously a premium brand (here in Germany it'l be HAZET maybe).

What to do?
repaint your toolbox, apply a "PORSCHE" decal.
Done
;-)

A white toolbox in my garage would be not stay clean and white for long. I don't see spending any time cleaning my tool chest. I will stick with my black tool box and my cleaning time spent on my white car.

It was also cool that they numbered the two factory cars 911 and 912!

Got to say that it's the racing that makes the cars. Clean ,neat equipment ,detail oriented mechanics , it's all very important to the effort ,and yeah , the image as well.

Racing serves as a great reminder that I need to a do a better job of keeping tools and such organized as I work. I love standing around the paddocks and watching cars getting pulled apart and rebuilt, especially the big jobs after a shunt. What strikes me is how every tool has a place, there isn't just a pile of tools next to the job at hand. It seems anal, but in fact the job goes quicker and smoother when it's done properly. I'm getting better at it.

This summer I epoxied the garage floor, and built shelves and peg board holders. More work to do in the spring, but not enough room with the cars hibernating right now to tackle any more projects in there until the cars can come out.

Komenda Fan nails it. Germans believe form follows function and a pit tool box is a great example. When I come in and help a team with diffs for the weekend I often bring my own tools.

Makes me more efficient because I have my system and I'm not stealing tools from the team that might be needed for other jobs simultaneously.

And I don't think Porsche white paint or chairs cost any more than Corvette yellow stuff or Gnassi red and blue. First race of the year. Everyone has new livery and everything is pretty, though if you look closely some of it is just a fresh wrap, just like they wrap the cars. Those pit stands are like $25k or more. Few teams use one for a single season and then cast it off.

When I was in Stuttgart this past November, I got a chance to see a lot of behind the scenes stuff at AMG. It seems as though uniformity has a strong influence over there. Like Josh D says, look professional, be professional.

so choice 'd be rather matte black ;-))

well, what they do there is not a gumpy barn find restauration.
they come there with clean racecars, clean equipment, no problem.
an clean white indeed is an endeavour to keep it white, and that also (next to the cars) makes an impression.

I like!

Results don't lie...1st in Class and 6th Overall. I'm thinking the white is working just fine.

Fun race this year and I expect the #911 and #912 in GTLM will be pushing each other all year (with their clean pits and toolboxes).

As Yogi Berra would say "It's deja vu all over again" Remember the 1984 debut of the 962 in America was at the Daytona 24 hour- White car with Porsche in black lettering along the rocker panels & a black number 1 - minimal sponsor decals- The Andrettis put it on the pole but it didn't go the distance.

I guess the white livery used by the factory teams is working out OK for them this year.

Congrats to the #912 team for the GTLM class win with only 13:05 of pit time for the 12 hours of racing at Sebring.

Not too shabby...
