I want one bad... I don't know why, I'm not a fan of the original Targas, but the retro aspect of the targa bar, curved glass and modern crazy roof action just presses all my buttons.

That being said, I think they only come in 4WD flavor and around $100K. So not for 6 years or so ;-)
I just can't justify spending more than 40K on a car, ever...

I want one as well. That is the first red one I have seen. It would look great next to my '87 Guards Red Carrera. I love the roof. I wonder when the turbo S version will appear?

I kinda like the lines without the rear glass... maybe some aftermarket guys can make a rear lid to replace the rear glass...

looks fantastic in red, my favourite 911!

they will probably only bring a handful RHD ones to NZ and ask $300k (NZD) for them, which is almost USD250k, so at $100k it sounds like a bargain

wonder if in the decades to come there will be "targa inferior" threads or chassis flex discussions for the 991?

Why wait decades?

The new Targa is obviously aimed at rich, limp wristed, no-wrench-turning, metrosexual (if not OUT, outright), panty waisted, wine sipping, pedicure getting, poser boys who like to play with robot super heroes and/or erector sets. And they obviously like Snoop Dogg style wheels, too!!!

Mmm yeah...that's gonna make some friends. How about you put mr banana fingers away and slowly back out of here to the other targa thread.

To everyone else....Ronnie has some targa issues he is dealing with and we are working with him....sometimes he strays outside the lines a bit, I will report this to BobKay and see if we can get him back over to the other thread.

Ronnie....it's OK, let's go back now...get your bannas. Come on, watch where your going, stop bumping into to things...that's it, nice.

It looks amazing!

I'm a little blushed that they would firstly re-imagine the early P O R S C H E script on their new models, but then redo the 'triple gill' stainless vents on the Targa bar.
To me, these are iconic longhood Targa-style icons.

Yes -Targa thread people- there were later Targa iterations in the (gulp) 80's that may have had wall space on several Pelican's bedrooms. But although they have their merits and are desirable in themselves, imo they dilute the original Butzi vision.

So I guess it's flattering, but on the same hand the company are definitely cashing in on 70's suave. The engineers would argue otherwise. Give me lots of money and I would be pleased to make a definitive judgement on whether the model is successful as it stands or not.

I think this shows that open air motoring is as appealing today as it has always been. It does however harken to the classic car experience. I won't have to make a decision but if I did I would take the targa over the coupe. The lines and automated top are fantastic. Is it possible that it will out sell the coupes?

I love the Targa. I have owned them all and I am a Targa guy.
I would have liked to have the top a manual like the original and skip the transformer "look at me" ballet. It would have been significantly lighter and faster to take the top off in the end. Porsche's brilliance with the 911 was always to keep engineering simple. I guess that's why I like the older air cooled models.
I also would have liked a RWD option. I fear Porsche may have missed the mark for Targa hardcore fans like myself. I do think the Targa bar makes it the sexiest of the breed.

I look at that and think - wow that's awesome but I wonder how much that whole assembly weighs to be able to perform that ballet with the roof.

Definitely would have stoplight envy if you pull next to someone at that stoplight and their car goes through this transformer mod next to you.
