a low level "boff" sound and then..

no boom, no crack, no explosion, no hi sound just a low "boff" when driving and then nothing happened when i tried the accelerator ( well something happened and i made a smoke curtain about 2 km.. rolling along )

Hauled it home.. had it in a garage for a long while..

decided it was time to sort it out..
pulled the engine out..
got the shroud of and started to clean the motor when I noticed something..

hmm ...

but..
wait a minute.. whats that on the cylinder ..

getting back to the house, crawling back into the couch...
hrmffffff, just another Porsche day...

now looking for a "fix the crack in engine and cylinder kit" but cant find it.. anyone have a clue where to find one ? im hopeing for something so that i only need a screwdriver or similar tool to use to apply it .... something magical ?

/johan

Vise Grips. The screwdriver is to remove the kit. Vise Grips to install.

Sorry to hear about that. Hope you can find another engine for a reasonable price. Hey, now's the time to hot-rod your car!

My condolences.

A couple-a-three tubes of this should take care of it, and if you had had a small SPAL fan pointed at the engine case in the first place, you would be crack-free today (inside joke for Eric - SilberUrS6) -

only 3 tubes J-B Weld you say... seems worth trying.. and a Wise Grip then of course..

Its a non matching number case.. only the lord knows where the cylinders came from..
( before my time as an owner) seems like the car has been through some rough times

it was a reasonable priced car for its apperence.. getting it runing was fun, blowing it up.. not so fun.. fixing it this time will take weight out of my wallet ( i hear J-B Weld is expensive )

Ha! Brando, I was just passing on a technique that you have had success with!

On a serious note - it looks to me like a rod broke (or a rod bolt sheared/nut came off) and then punched a hole in the case and broke the cylinder . . .

Ugh, that really sucks.

What causes this type of failure?

WARNING disturbing pictures ahead

look no piston no more..

cylinder head.. ( note.. one valve missing )

got the cylinder off, i mean the cylinder puzzle, it just came to pieces..

something bent... anyone ?

some metal grains in sump.. not to much ( or is it )

the other cylinder and pistons looks like this..

the other heads looks like this

Well assumption: valve guide bad.. makes valve come off.. makes valve destroy piston.. somehow shoots valve back through motor and almost out of the block on the other side..

HAPPY PICTURE...

its a present to me and the white one.. found an engine on the net.. bought it.. under the plastic wrapping it hides..

maybe we will be rolling on the streets this summer...
