Ever blowdry after a wash?

I have a friend who likes to come to my garage, drink my beer, and supervise. And occasionally he's very helpful. Like yesterday. I washed my 1980 SC in the driveway and he suggested that we pull out the leaf blower and blow it dry to get all the water out of the noooks and crannies.

Why not? Out came the (electric) leaf blower and I put him to work. It's amazing how much water comes out of the sunroof area, windshield mouldings, body seams. I made sure that he didn't over-work an area. As he was finishing an area, I came behind with a towel and dried the mist that is left behind. When I was done, the towel was barely damp.

I'm thinking that I'd rather risk pushing water somewhere than letting it sit and go there on it's own. I like how easy it was drying the car and getting tough to dry areas totally sorted out.

Anyone else ever do this?

Absolutely, been doing this for years. Also prevents scratch marks if you dry it enough to not have to wipe at all...

I prefer to take the car for a speedy drive before drying it. If it's hot outside I'll do a preliminary dry with the chamois, then drive the car, then finish dry it in the garage.

Yep, I've done it as well. Works great, just make sure that your area gets a good rinse with the hose, so that there isn't extra dust kicked up as the ground dries.

Works well…especially for under the rear reflector bar. Just be careful with a gas blower. Some models exhaust into the air stream. This could spray your newly cleaned p-car with a fine oil/fuel mix.

I'm contemplating getting one of these, as I do not have a need for a leaf blower but it's pricey.

The Metro Master Blaster is Metro's most powerful blower/dryer at 8hp! Blow dry your motorcycle & your vehicle with this big blower.

I like it as I have become a detail freak, now that I don't track any longer.

OCD I guess, I need a hobby.

I use a Makita cordless blower.
Uses the same 18v battery as my Makita cordless tools. So. it was quite inexpensive buying the tool only.

It is nice to get the water off before any water spots develop.

Mike, you have joined the right community for that.

Anyway, I recommend the 4.0 hp Metro vacuum, it's a great detailing vac and you can use the other end as a blower for drying, works great.

Mike, It's spelled CDO for those afflicted. Got to get the letters in the correct alphabetic order.

I use a Husqvarna 150BT backpack blower when drying my cars, have since I bought the blower about 3 years ago.
It specs like this 50.2-cc 251 MPH/710 CFM
Now our cars are pretty fast but 251 mph coming out of about a 3 inch tube is moving some serious air.

My original (gas) leaf blower discharged the (2 cycle) exhaust into the wind stream. I wasn't sure it would get oil on the car, but I didn't want to risk it. My more recent blower doesn't appear to discharge the exhaust into the wind stream, so I gave it a shot. It worked like a champ. I didn't even dry it with a towel. I just blew it off. It got 99% of the water off. I'll never go back!

+1

Additionally by driving the car the brakes get nice and warm and dry which extends their life and water tends to get blown out of all the nooks and crannies that you can never dry any other way.

I use my electric leaf blower to dry the 911 and the M3. Works great. I got the idea from a car freaks video, I think, years ago.

They also suggested using two buckets (soap and rinse) and separate wash mitts for the upper and lower parts of the car.

I use my shop vac that the motor detaches and doubles as a leaf blower. Works great!

John,

So it can go from suck to blow? I was at Zum Stam the other night, their Pork shank is insanely good! Beer???

CDO, OCD whatever, I'm screwed up for sure. I love t drive my P car but I love to clean cars, for as long as I can remember. I had a mobile detailing biz back in the early '70's. I guess it's due to my dad washing his Olds every Sunday morning and wanting to spend time with him.
