Help with 85 Cruise wiring diagram. Question about testing from Bentley

I'm about half embarrassed to ask this since I'm fairly good at electrical but in this instance something the Bentley tells me to do and what I should read makes no sense to me.

Step 1 of troubleshooting is put a meter lead on female pin 3 and the other to ground, meter should read infinity.
Step two, press clutch switch and meter should read appx 10 ohm.

Step two makes no sense to me because if I'm reading the diagram correctly, the clutch switch would have no bearing on what the meter reads when the clutch switch is opened which appears to only make or break ground to the cruise relay. I don't see why resistance would change when it doesn't appear anything has changed in the circuit. Am I looking at something wrong? Or am I misreading step 2?

If this test fails the result is either a bad clutch switch or bad cruise servo. The cruise servo checks within the range recommended in step 3 which is to connect a meter between pins 3 and 7, meter should read between 11 and 17 ohm. if below 11 or above 17, bad servo. Mine tests at 14.9 which should be a good servo coil.

Something I just noticed, when I place the lead in pin twelve and the other to ground, I momentarily get 0 ohm then a very slight resistance reading. Am I back reading through the gauge cluster? I don't think I should be.

So is your cruise not working? Have you checked the vacuum lines?

My wrenches apprentice forgot to connect mine after and engine drop. I was on the freeway and lost my cruise feature WTD? pulled over and found a vacuum line disconnected. re-connected it. Cruising away on the freeway

You're checking the actuator resistance and relay operation with that procedure.

The resistance on pin 3 to ground shouldn't change from what I'm seeing. The clutch switch is just breaking ground to the relay and with the key off, the contacts won't switch positions because the coil didn't energize.
With the clutch out, the relay should have ground which if there's power would energize the cruise servo. When you press the clutch, the switch breaks ground and switches the relay contacts. I just can see why the resistance from pin 3 to ground would change when it doesn't appear the circuit has changed at all by pressing the clutch.

Cruise does nothing. I found the clutch switch had been purposely positioned so it wouldn't make contact with the clutch arm. I bench tested the switch and it worked so I put it back in and adjusted.

I checked my vacuum lines. That's how I managed to bump my cylinder head temp sensor plug slightly off and made my car run like crap

It has been a long week.
