alternator question need electrical gurus.
Hey guys, I'm replacing my Alternator due to a bad diode/rectifier plate. Light in the Tacho was on dim.
The question I have is, does this newer one (pictured on right) have an internal voltage regulator? It doesn't have the spade connector for the black wire so I am a bit lost as to the compatibility. ![]() ![]()

Looks like an internal regulated alternator. I have one that looks just like it in case mine goes out.
If it fits properly in the fan housing, use it and send your old one out for a proper rebuild as a back up. Remove the connection to the remote VR by your CDI and put it away for safe keeping. Then fold over and tape off the black wire that used to go to the DF connection.

Thanks Dennis, I was gonna give you a call but it was kinda late. You answered it anyways. Lol, Thanks! I think I will take your advice and keep my original SEV Marchal rather than sell it for the core credit. You don't have a source for a good rebuilder do you?

Make sure ALL the dimensions are the same! Early and late alternators mount differently. Installed depth is critical.

and put a 928 regulator on it. Now the original most reliable Porsche alternator becomes less reliable like all the internal regulated Porsche alternators which started in 1982 on the 911SC.
