Cool A non-obvious CV Joint question (and one obvious one)

Evening Pelicans:

I've spend the day wrestling with my passenger side axle - a good exercise, super messy as several have pointed out.

Is there a best practice when it comes to mating up the refreshed axle to both the tranny and rear rotor? which side goes first? And is there a cleaning regimen for both the wheel side and tranny side? I've got old grease on both, so I assume a clean-up is in order, but anything else?

My CV joint components looked really good, typical shiny parts, but one part of the inner race gave me pause:

I'm a <3,000 mile a year driver, so I'm thinking drive on it until it dies. I guess I can swap the wheel side and tranny side joints (full assemblies) and get more life, anyone done this?

Thanks Pelicans and Happy 4th!

Yep, I've done this and it works well. I've mentioned it a few times on CV threads but no one else seems terribly interested in the idea.
