another heater back date question

I have moved to Cali and my 79 SC is in Indiana and I cannot look at it to answer a heater backdate question. Is there a blank off plate on the passenger side fan shroud cover of will i have to cut a hole there to mount the piping

Yes, the passenger side plate is flat and solid. You will either have to modify the stock plate or replace it with one from Pelican Parts. If you have air, I found that making the pipe oval instead of round helped make everything fit better. Good luck!

My experience was that the passenger side Pelican retro plate fit perfectly on my 81 with AC - but I had to wrestle with the driver's side.

I had changed out the York for a Sanden compressor but I think all that is above the primary mounting plate where interference would exist.

The a/c mounting bracket (Sanden) on my SC has some reinforcing gussets underneath that interfered with the tube on the right side block off plate of my engine. To make everything fit, I reshaped some of the reinforcements with a grinder and then used a large pair of channel locks to slightly flatten the round tube into an oval shape so that there would be room between the tube and the a/c bracket for the heater hose and clamp. Since I was changing over to an Electromotive XDi igintion system and did not need a distributor, the driver's (left) side was easy, lots of working room! I guess this is just another example of modifications that required a bit of custom work to make everything fit and function! Each one is different!
