Fuchs Sizing

I am desperately seeking a set of Fuchs for my '84 Cab. Presently I have a set of BBS gold wheels 16x7 in front and 16x8 in back. I can't find a pair of 16x8 fuchs for the rear at a reasonable price. My question is....should I buy 16x6's for the front and 16x7's for the back? Could I put 16x7's on all four wheels but with different tires? I have a good set or 205's and 225's I'd like to reuse.

Since you're using 205/225's anyway, I'd find a set of 16x6's and put your 7's on the rear. I suppose you could put 7's all the way around, the front would look better (I like the deep dish look) but you'd also get a little more kick out of the steering with the additional positive offset. Since it's only a 205 tire, there's not much performance benefit. When you finally go to 7's in the front, roll the lips and squeeze some 225's in there.

Put the 6's on now, wear the tires down while you search for 8's or 9's for the back. They'll look great and be worth the wait.

Also do an archive search on spacers. 7's in the rear can look a lot more beefy when pushed out a little.

If it were me, I would hold out for the 8s or 9s for the rear, and find a pair of 7s for the front. I have 2 friends that have the 6 & 7 stock set up (1 SC, 1 Carrera) with 205s on the front and 225 on the rear, and the rear could take 8s easily. 9s will require rolling the lips most likely.

You have 8s now, going down will result in a noticable difference when it comes to the rear.

I had 8s from a 944 turbo on the rear of my car for a while (couldn't get them to fit once I lowered the car) and when I went back to 7s there was a noticable difference.

FWIW. Good luck.

Fenders are already rolled and the car has been lowered a bit. The 7's and 8's fit and look great. I guess I'll have to hold out for the 8" Fuchs for the rear. I tried Parteheaven but they have no 8's. CAn someone come to the rescue?

9's will go on the rear with 245/45's, no rolling needed. Keep them on your list too!

I've been followong the eBay 16x8's but there well over $600 without meeting the reserve. There was another set of 16x7's and 16x9's that went for $1475. A little more than I'd like to spend.

Get used to it! I bought ChrisS' 9"ers for about 1k?

Also, the 9"ers do not sit further out in the wheel well: they simply use more offset to put more rubber on the inside. With spacers they are the last word.

Keep trying on the 8 or 9"ers. You will not be disappointed.

I agree with JDub. This year at Hershey I was determined to buy a set. I looked around the whole show and found that 8's and 9's were in very short supply. by 11:00 they were all gone and all went for over $1000.00 for the two wheels. Good luck and happy hunting. IF you find a set and decide to pass let me know as I have been looking for over a year now.

Hi:

Jdub- Sorry to say..but this is wrong....( about 9" not sticking out further).
I've done a fairly comprehensive study of all the Fuchs 16" part numbers, including offsets and backspaces. I'm not sure what you were comparing the 9 to...but with the next widest wheel being the 16 x8...if we're comparing the 911 version of this 8" wheel with the 9...then the 9 is about 18 mm closer toward the inside, and about 7-10 mm further out on the outside. If we compare instead to the 944Turbo 8" rim...then the 9 is only 5 mm closer toward the inside...and about 20 mm further out on the outside.

Todsimpson- I run 7 x 16's in the front with 205's and I don't notice more kickback (?)?

The back of a 9" Fuchs is exactly 17.1mm further inboard and the front is exactly 8.3 mm further outboard than on an 8" 911 Fuchs.

Wil-I noticed it on my SC. There is additonal offset on the outside of the 7's (how much?) that increases feedback through the wheel over bumps, ruts, etc. I've since gone to 8's on the front with 225/50's on a different car. Have you tried to fit more rubber on the front?

Hold out for the 9" wheels. Patience.

Randy W. traded a pair of 7" wheels for a pair of 8" wheels, straight across, at JW's 2001 swap meet.

I think the really badass setup would be 7" in front with 205s or maybe 215s, and 9" in rear with 245s or 255s. That's the ticket.

Hi:
Bill V....right..what I said... ( about 9"...seems to say the same thing..although I can't even "see" tenths of a mm !!)

Tod...I've put 7" on my Carrera..same basic chassis as SC...running 205-55-16 S0-2's. I don't notice the kickback you're talking about. True...compared to 6"...ALL the extra width is toward the outside. I run a weird set up of 7" front and rear, with 205 front and 225 rear. I was trying to dial out unwanted low-speed ( high steering angle) understeer since I also have limited slip. It works. Not looking to optimaize looks...looking instead for the proper track balance ( running some DE's). The extra front track width and the extra side-wall stability of running 7" vs 6" seems to work.

Actually, Super, I traded a pair of 7x16s straight across for a pair of straight 9x16s. One of the better deals I've made - although I did buy a 914-6 steering wheel at the last JW swap meet for $5!
