re-upholstering dash for early 911 - need HELP
i am researching my options in having my dash re-upholstered and need adivce for a short wheelbase '68 911. the bayarea912 board has been very helpful but i need all the advice i can get.
so far, it seems the half dozen local auto upholstery shops are not willing to tackle a dash. the one shop that was willing to do the job wants $250 and would use a french double stitch seam (similar to prototipo stitching) around the gauges. imagine a stretched "C" turned 90 degrees clockwise for stitch placement. they will use the material i want. autos int'l wants $250-$350 with no mention of french seam plus they will use the material i want. justdashes.com wants $450 and they use the factory "thermal vacuum" process in a grain similar to the one i want. dash caps and perlon/flet covers are not an option. SWB are NLA new. don't want a used dash unless in near perfect condition. i have done the majority of the upholstery work on my car but hesitant to tackle the dashboard. though i have already done the second piece which fits under the windshield. so i am reaching out to people who have found alternatives in a "like new" dashboard. can any one offer up shop names for me to contact? advice on doing it myself? anything? the dash has been removed as i am refurbishing the entire dashboard area - remove, paint, and clean gauges, change bulbs, paint dash, etc. TIA, bob 68L R Gruppe |
