What does this switch control?
Car is a 1976 912E, Starting to sort through some of the electrical and wiring, as well as swapping out the heat/vent controls, and came across this interesting switch, not sure what it does. The picture shows were the switch is, but no the switch, I couldn't find anything on it (though I am a search moron)
It acts like a momentary push in, and pull out switch, NO idea what it does, and two of the four wires going into it are cut. One wire goes to ground, the other runs up to the headlight switch area and was spliced in there. The switch definitely looks OEM, but not the wiring, which looks home made, not OEM. Any ideas what this does and can I eliminate it? I want to use the spot for a switch for my aux dash fan.

Is it rotary? (Picture is blurry)
If so it should be the potentiometer for the wipe interval. That's what porsche calls it in the PET so no smart a$$ comments. Ha ha Unless the previous owner did something different, I think the original hole should have been for the wiper system

Pause on that. Your year looks like the wipe interval was above and between the clock and speedo. It's listed as item 7 but dc auto nor *********** show a name for what was there for the 912e. Still looking

Do you know if your car had the webasto heater In The smuggler box?
PET says that location for 76 was for the switch to operate it Otherwise you previous owner found the cutout behind the dash and added a switch for something. You'll have to trace the wires.

Its such an easy hole to fill, could be used by PO for just about anything!

Looks like this was some sort of home made deal, or was possibly for the heater, but may have been removed. I find this unlikely as the car was largely unmolested, and there is nothing in the smuggler's box or heating system to indicate. I was busy with other things (prepping for paint) so diddnt take the time to trace it, but all the wires look NON stock, and the PO used one of those blue clamp on things to splice into a wire that is just above the headlight switch, and possibly ignition, more to follow.
