Backdated 1982 SC too 1973 RS
This is my first Porsche and my first post on the forum.
I bought a 1980 911 SC of a guy that sold it through this forum. 1980 911sc coupe for sale It then got sent to my father Stein Johnsen how has spent a lot of hours on this forum for some time now. I asked him to build the car for me as he has been at it for the last 27 years (in some of the pics you will see his yellow 68 R “not the real thing” ) We decided to build the car as close/correct to a RS as we could although we have had to make budget orientated cuts so itīs not a clone or a replica itīs my car the way I would have built it ….for Porsche☺ You can see a few pictures in the classified ad that the ink goīs to, the following pictures are of the car after we received it and started the transformation. This is the car before ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Andreas Johnsen; 08-29-2014 at 10:24 AM.. |

Mechanical teardown
We knew that the gearbox needed attention with weak syncros but a short test drive reviled a knocking sound and an alarming low oil pressure.
After teardown of the gearbox we found that 4 syncros and two sliders needed to be changed . Apart from the parts we knew were "tired " the gearbox was in excellent condition. Very clean inside . The clutch was new according to the seller but must have been very bad quality as it was on its last legs . A new Sachs plate was sourced. Unfortunately the engine had several issues . The oil pump was very worn and so was the crank !!! I guess that goes hand in hand The knocking noice were rod bearings that was toast !!! Not a pleasant surprise !! Then of course the saying "when you are in there started !! New oil pump, new crank 0/0,all new old stock bearings ,new chains and new piston rings . The pistons / cylinders /heads/valves/camshaft and rods were ,in excellent condition . |

Very nice! It appears you're making nice progress. I'm doing the same thing now with a 76 shell.
And you're right, taking the trim from Black to Bright and shiny is an obscene amount of work if you do it yourself. I also agree 1000% that it should be a requirement on a a backdate. What color are you going with for the body? |

Itīs going from " white whale to black duck tail " with black interior, the rims will have the center painted black too and i was thinking grey for the "stickers" however Iīm still not sure about that maybe a different tone of black to "ghost" the car a bit, we will see. |
