CIS Tune Up / Rebuild Service

I did some searching...didn't find what I was looking for. I am in the middle of a full engine rebuild on my 82 SC with 3.0 motor. Cylinders sent off to EBS, cams sent off to Dougherty, heads at Goza Machine shop, bottom end rebuilt at Goldcrest, oil cooler sent off to ultrasonic cleaner/pressure tester...now my question...is there a place to send off my CIS for a overhaul/rebuild and bench tune that will be close for my new 9.8 compression pistons and 964 cams? Or does this service not exist?

I'm feeling a little out of my element -I usually just lurk on this forum and enjoy all the cool resto projects and such - but thought I'd give my $.02. I'm not aware of anybody who could do a bench tune for CIS - not saying it ain't out there - but my guess is your best bet is to contact Brian Leask about modifying your WUR - making it adjustable Adjustable 930 WUR Website. This - combined with an AFR gauge - will allow you tune the car surprisingly well - especially considering the mods you are doing...

I don't want to tempt fate by saying this...

I've had my SC for 20 yars and all I've done is opened up the WUR and cleaned it. It goes like a little rocket.

I've never used him, but this guy (Larry) has been around a long time and there is a lot of feedback about him on the web (including positive experiences from people in the 930 forum).

And regarding the Leask WUR modification that Brandon mentioned above - had one done by him about 6-7 years ago and highly recommend it.

We can do it for you but you may not need anything done at all. The fuel head can be adjusted for more flow and/or the WUR specs changed. Before doing this verify your AFRs, they may be fine.

Rarly...What would I adjust the flow to? How would I gauge it? Warm Up Regulator...what would I be wanting to do with it? And my AFR's can't be read right now because the engine is in pieces. I'd like to send the CIS off to be tuned/tested so that I can just bolt it back on and start my engine for the first time with confidence.

WE can adjust your fuel head or WUR if needed. We can also do this based on your build. It is best however to have actual readings to know how much, if any, extra fuel is needed and where it is needed. Without that data the system is set at a conservative curve based on estimated output.

I had problems with my CIS about 6 years ago. I got a lot of help from the guys on this forum. But when I wanted to get a new bimetal strip fitted to the WUR I located Fuel Injection Corporation in CA. I was visiting San Francisco at the time so I took the unit to them in Livermore. They did what I needed, had a good price and got the thing back to me in 2 days.

All the people mentioned can probably set you up.

Having said this, I still like what I read from Rarly. If you think you might need some additional output, why not wait and have whoever does the job get some input from you.

Since all I needed was the new strip, there wasn't much to change, but I still adjusted the control pressures further once I reinstalled the system.

Got ya thank you. I still have a couple months before I'm ready to start up the engine but just wanted to get my ducks in a row. Thank you Rarly! I see your just one state over which is nice.

Kennesaw. I am sitting here listening to Danny Boone "FISH GREASE". I & several of my left-coast pals have used CIS Flowtech for WUR & Fuel Dist. Rebuilds. I swear by Larry at CIS Flowtech for BOSCH CIS rebuild work. CIS Flowtech is very experienced & can also tune for engine mods. However, RarlyL8 is well into the custom tuning arena of modified motors(including turbos) with a very good reputation. RarlyL8 can build you a nice set of custom tuned pipes to boot. You have to call them and decide which is right for your motor rebuild/modification. Maybe both because both are good choices? Both Larry's are in AL so distance is not an issue. Best of luck but I would leave the UGA gear at home if go visiting the shops (just kidding). Post a sound clip when the motor is in & running!!!
