Hey, wanna see a picture of my nuts?

Got the bead blasted Ti lug nuts from JimmyT and put them on. Light as a feather, and very nice looking in bead-blast finish.

Wait, what did you think I was talking about?

Before:

After:

And a close up of an individual lug nut:

I like the look, and since Ti is a lot tougher than Al, I like them from a materials standpoint. Ni-based anti-seize, torqued to 90 lb-ft.

This thread is just nutty.

Amazing how something as simple as wheel nuts can change the look of a wheel. Looks great.

They look great. I bought a set also and I'm very happy with them. Maybe I'll get them installed this year.

Nice looking nuts (lug), Eric, but, please clarify which nuts are "light as a feather" (yours or the car's).

OK, so folks are going to spend $10 per nut. Now, before anyone anyone lets their jaws hit the floor, I will say this - I am a mountain bike guy. And I have always lusted after a Ti frame. The material properties of titanium are stellar, and they make perfect MTB frames. But they cost. A lot. And that's because welding Ti is not easy. And because Ti tube is not cheap.

But talk about a frame that will last forever. And never rust. And is strong and light. And the bare metal is beautiful. OK, I have a little crush on Ti, I admit it. And pay three times what steel lug nut would cost? Maybe a little crazy. But they do look good. and they are very seriously light. I would guess that each of those are 75% of the weight of the Al nuts they replaced. And stronger than steel. And they don't rust. I paid $206.80 USPS Priority shipped for them.

I told ya JimmyT would set you up nice. Nice guy who makes some fantastic stuff.

I agree on the Ti thing. Really cool metal. My wedding ring is Ti. It was either that, or Tungsten. One is shockingly light, the other shockingly heavy. I went with the faster choice.....

Tungsten is also an incredible material. Dense and tough, tungsten was the first material to be used as an anti-tank discarding-sabot round. Before depleted uranium, which is even more dense than tungsten.

I want a titanium ring with tungsten inserts.

Considering that Ti is 96% heavier than the same size piece of aluminum, I doubt the Ti lug nuts are lighter than the Factory aluminum lug nuts unless than have at least 96% more material by volume.

A 55 lbs square of Ti is the same size a 28 lbs square of aluminum.

So it costs $200 to get fully nutted? Sounds like a good deal as this is less than the price of a good hooker (not that I would know ) and here we're talking about a nut-job that keeps on giving!

And, if you're not in a hurry, you can spend a full 20 minutes screwing.

The nuts onto the lugs.

I will weigh them to see. There is actually less material to the Ti lug nuts than the factory Al ones - so the idea that the individual Ti nuts weigh less is possible, just from a material mass standpoint.

The closed-end design of the factory nut vs. the open-end design of the Ti nut is something to keep in mind.

Twenty minutes you say? I'm not sure I can take it that long. And besides, I've got things to do!

Well, there's the careful wiping.

Of the threads.

Then there's the thorough lubing (with special lube) of the seat. And the threads.

And don't forget the special pattern of the screwing, with just the right tightness. And then there's the 90 lb-ft of torque.

Of course, if you're a quick shooter, it'll take less time.

I have to say, this is a lot more fun than a wwest AC thread. LOL.
