Question windshield replacement on my 83 911 HELP!

Hello,

I was told that I can replace my front windshield rubber on my 1983 911sc with 964 window rubber. I purchased the 964 rubber but still have the original 83 windshield. It just seems to be to small, please help before I make a mistake. Thanks for the replies in advance. G

If you search you'll see lots of conflicting info, although one consistent message is that 964 glass needs a 964 seal. Some manage it fit it in, others don't.

Maybe try the all 964 combo but unless you don't want to run the moulding then perhaps stick with the normal SC parts.

Thanks for the reply, I'm afraid that the SC glass seems a bit small. Just trying to avoid putting back the molding.

Curious... is glass OEM or aftermarket? I've been told aftermarket glass is smaller.

I have gone through a similar scenario and my recommendation is which ever year type of glass you plan to install then install the appropriate year rubber seal. I say this because I am under the belief that the physical frame opening has not changed over the years but the size of the glass and the thickness of the rubber seal has. If you do not want to deal with the SC styled anodized aluminum trim then go with a glass and seal that no longer uses the trim hardware. I previously installed a 1990 C2 glass with correct seal into my 80SC. The seal had the molded rubber trim fascia that from a distance looks like the anodized aluminum trim. Since then I have gone back to the 1980 size glass with a new seal and the original anodized aluminum. It was cheaper to have Safelite install the new 1980 size glass and new seal with my old anodized aluminum trim. The cost to buy just new 1990 C2 style glass was several hundred dollars more with out the correct new seal.
