Automatic Heat Control Unit Question (1984)
Hi guys.
Is there a light bulb somewhere inside there that comes on with headlights/gauges that will light the temp selector knob??? Never made sense to me a numerical selector would not be lit - but last time I was in there to snap on the vent lever control arm.......didn't see one. I've removed the entire unit before-so know it's no big deal to do so-but wanted to know if there's a lightbulb in there.... before hand. THANKS, JT |

I'll have to check but I'm almost certain my dial lights up in my 85. The problem is, my auto heat isn't connected to anything as far as I know.

There must be some light bulbs in there 'cause mine is well lit at night.
I had the whole system rebuild a few months back and it works very well.

The light bulb is in the switch assembly that is mounted inside the autoheat box, under the knob and panel-to-be-lit. Remove the autoheat unit, turn it upside down on the bench. The bulb is installed in the bulb holder that has two 1/4" FastOns connected to it -- to provide power to the bulb. Pull the bulb holder straight up to remove it. The bulb should be visible on the end opposite to the FastOns. Your bulb may be missing. Don't know where you can get another -- try Pelican.
PS: This looks like it -- Pelican has it: 900-631-132-90-M97, $1.00. Last edited by cmonref; 11-22-2014 at 05:22 PM.. |

THANKS Cabmando, SpyderMike, Nico911 and Cmonref !!
Thought so.....and now you guys confirmed it. Bought a used relay a few years ago and the entire system (engine blower + footwell blowers + airboxes) all work perfectly...... so here in north NJ when I take the car out for my maintenance and metal health runs in the Fall and Winter........I use the heat system as designed. (removed the entire AC system last year) Will add the control box removal/light bulb replacment to my "winter projects" for sure. BTW - talking about small bulbs- if you guys havent already done so- replace your old standard guage bulbs with the Etarga LED bulbs.......you will love the difference! JT |
