removing auto heat wiring loom questions

I am backdating systems and trying to remove wiring on my 1985 targa. I removed the auto heat controls between the seats. I have the two connectors under the cardboard panel. The wires go in the tunnel and most likely forward. Has anyone successfully removed these?

Also, there is a small gauge brown/white wire running back under the ebrake mount plate. What is this wire for?

Thanks-
