AC Hookup 1978 SC

Please help me with this AC Hookup. I have a large red hose and a smaller black hose running to the AC unit on a 1978 SC. Does the red hose go on top of the unit and the black on the bottom?

Thanks

The hose that "comes from" the rear lid condenser goes to the discharge, pressure side (often labeled "D"), of the compressor, the other hose goes to the suction side (Often labeled "S") of the compressor.

Klob... by "unit" it is supposed you mean compressor. Look at the fittings on the hoses... they should be different sizes. Look at fittings on compressor... they too should be different sizes. Match hose fitting to compressor fitting. If all are same size = conundrum.

Here are how high and low port fittings look. Note blue line (low pressure) is larger line & fitting.

Oiy, oh well....

The largest diameter hose is the suction, evaporator outlet to compressor inlet.
The smallest diameter hose is the high side, compressor outlet to deck lid inlet ont the RH hinge.

First, if you can read the side of the compressor and locate a "S" for suction, that would be the low side, where you connect the largest diameter hose.

If you see a "D" for discharge, that is were you connect the smaller diameter hose.

Think about replacing all the hoses if they are original, and don't forget a new drier.

Oiy... hate pasting this ugly stuff, lol,

Thanks a lot gents! That last pic cleared it up for me for sure. The markings were wore and it seemed that both connections were the same size. Appreciate the pics and help
