I always thought the early impact bumper fog lights seemed like an afterthought, and preferred the look of impact bumper cars with the lights deleted. After buying mine, I started hunting for a fog light delete front valance.

I found one in the classifieds here with no spoiler and planned to drill the holes in it for a spoiler. Shortly afterward, I found an early whaletail for the right price, but the owner didn't want to ship. He lived in NJ, so I decided to take a road trip and pick it up. While there, he asked if I wanted the bumpers from the same car for free. We dug them out of his crawl space and to my surprise it included a fog light delete front valance with a spoiler. As an added bonus, it was in much better shape than the other one I bought too.

As for the wiring, I cut the wires as they entered the car and taped the ends. If I ever add Cibie's or something crazy, I'd like to use the factory switch.

I didn't want to weld the holes shut, in case I change my mind in the future, so I found rubber grommets that fit the hole and used a little water proof silicone to seal them.

Great story Will, and a great find! Where did you get your Euro bumper trim/running light delete parts?

I got them from our host.

A little spendy, but I think they are so much better looking than the US marker lights. Plus mine was originally ROW, so I found them to be a fitting mod.

Holy cow, looking at the prices, they were much cheaper when I bought them 5 years ago.

Holy cow is right. That would be a $200 mod.. :-/

Does look great on your car though! I'd like to do this mod along with the clear turn signal lenses with amber LEDs.

No fogs, that crap looks like **** and is useless anyway.
If you have a Carrera the holes could be used for cooling brakes or oil cooler.

I'm not sure how the fogs can possibly help. They don't have much throw, and the throw they do have is right in front of the car, and much more to the sides than the headlamps. IOW, they fill the space not directly illuminated by the headlamps, and unless you are driving 10mph, they won't illuminate anything any better than your headlamps.

To prove it to yourself, on a dark night park on the side of the road and run your headlamps. Then turn on your foglamps and see if you can see anything any further down the road. The big test is when you cover your headlamps with cardboard to show yourself what the actual beam pattern looks like. Even worse, some folks try and re-aim their foglamps to act more like headlamps, which also does nothing for distance. It just throws more light to the sides and up, right into the faces of drivers in the other direction.

I am aware that the fogs only illuminate the road immediately in front of the car, but the headlights need all the help they can get. The fog-lights only provide slightly more light, but they help me see road imperfections & the edge of the road...a little bit better.

I think this depends on your height. ;) They didn't do a damn thing for my 5'7" self except cause me to buy bulbs every other year, and add 4.35 lbs to the far end of my car.

I was tempted to buy driving lights, but thought that I'd rather save my money for something else, especially now that my H4 Euros are proving excellent at night.

I'm still not sure why you say the H4 Euros "need help". Mine are daylight bright.

Are you running Euro H4s or Carrera H5s? Also, are you running the relay we mentioned?

Nothing against fogs, but i left it with no fogs for cooling.

No fogs on your car is a cleaner look , in my opinion....nice car either way.

No fogs

This is what I did with mine. I Deleted the fog lights, cut some holes in the valance for a little more air flow to the brakes and oil cooler then mounted some 100w driving lights (modified 914 fog lamps) that are switched with the high beams, mounted the relays in the front trunk and deleted the fog lamp switch in the dash.

My 2 cents: Fogs draw the eye down from above the bumper, making the car appear closer to the ground and more balanced against the headlights. On the other hand, without them the car looks cleaner and higher. If you live in an area without much fog you just might want to ditch them, unless you understand what I am saying about visual balance.

I have fogs but have them tilted slightly up and use them as daytime running lights DRLs) since I live in the country on 2 lane roads where you want to be seen by oncoming people who want to overtake slower cars, or people pulling out of shaded drives, etc. Most people hate DRLs but numerous studies unequivocally show they reduce collisions. I would rather be safe than cool. In the city, using DRLs are not so much an issue.

Fogs + two pairs of high beams. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps41fb424a.jpg

Only if you're going all of 5 MPH!

I went with a Clubsport valance (fog delete/no holes like the SC) from Rennspeed that was a total piece of crap. Was not the correct size and the mounting tabs were wrong. Loved the look once I cut and re-positioned the mounting tabs to allow it to sort of fit. Made a splitter for it that was totally badd ass.

Only took on PCA club president to compliment my "SC" for me to want to rip it off for good.

Went back to my stock valance minus the fogs. Made a block off plate for the driver's side fog light recess and painted the entire thing with black stone guard. NOW it is perfect.

I'm not sure what you laws says, but over here its illegal to drive with fog lights in combination with any other light.
So the use for fog lights is in very heavy fog or heavy snowfall. Conditions when you have 150-200 feet of limited sight.

No foglights on the front:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1420551351.jpg

Or on the back:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1420551378.jpg

Front ones just look like a boy racer add-on to me, and rear ones, a definite Porsche afterthought, are not required on a pre-1980 car in the UK.

Did you do anything to finish the edges on the cutouts in the valance? I've been thinking of doing the same to feed my cooler.

This is a very beautiful car.

Thanks.

Ok.... resume the fog light delete talk....

My dad has a champagne silver 944T that looks like the same color. It's a beautiful color, especially in the sun.
