need help identifying hardware and instructions to attach rs fiberglass bumpers

Hello Everyone,

I bought a 72T about 1.5 years ago that was converted to a turbo body style short hood and had no engine, tranny or bumpers. It had rust and all kinds of metal issues, which are now repaired

I bought new metal panels put and converted it to a rs clone with rs quarter panels, long hood, ducktail, and proper fenders. I also purchased fiberglass rs bumpers from GT racing and now the car is in the paint shop. The painter is not sure how to attach the fiberglass bumpers to the 911 body, so I am trying to research that now as that will need to happen in a few months.

My primary question is determining what hardware is required to bolt the front and rear fiberglass bumpers to the body. Also, if you can point me to a thread or instructions that walks through that process, I'd greatly appreciate it. I see more info on backdating a 74+ 911 car to an RS clone but not finding that much info for attaching the same bumpers to a 72 or 73 911.

When I look at the PET catalog, I find references to various M8 x 22 or 25 bolts and L shaped brackets for the front, and I know there are specific mouldings for a 73 rs bumpers, however, I don't know if these same bolts and brackets are used to mount the fiberglass bumpers. The factory workshops haven't provided much more detail either.

If anyone has a good handle on the parts needed to mount the bumpers and/or a good instruction on how to do it, I'd greatly appreciate the advice. Thanks.

Below are diagrams for front and rear bumper parts for 70-73 per PET, but these parts aren't for rs fiberglass bumpers. I am wondering if I can attach the fiberglass bumpers with some of the parts circled. If not, I appreciate any advice on what hardware is required. Thank you.

Hi, to attach the RS fiberglass rear bumper to my 1970 911T I used an aluminum bumper from a Renault Megane, the arch in that bumper perfectly matched the fiberglass bumper. I adapted the two Renault's bumper mounts to attach to the car's chassis then used two wide bolts with very wide washers to attach the FG bumper to the aluminum bumper. Then used the original mounts to attach the FG bumper edges to the flares and also fabricated 4 clamps to help the rubber between the flares an the bumper to stay in place.
Sorry I have no pictures of this process, the only ones I have are these:
The 2 bolts and washers in the middle of the bumper shown here are not the ones used

Jose

I like the fact that there is the aluminum bumper under the FG bumper, so the protection is about the same, or better, than that of an original bumper.
Here is a pic of the end product:

Jose, your bumpers fit well, and it looks like there was quite a bit of fabrication involved due to using the Renault bumper. I agree that adds to the strength, but I'll probably try to get away with just using the fiberglass bumpers since it will be difficult to find a good Renault bumper. Does anyone have input or pics of a straight aftermarket rs bumper installation for a long hood?

I don't seem to have pics, but I used the factory mounts on the longitudinals. Then drilled holes on the underside of the fender, etc and use some stainless hardware to bolt it all up.

Still looking for a good set of instructions and hardware list for rs bumpers. If you have that info, please post it as it's not easy to find.

The rear is easy. Bolts go in the 4 mounting holes on the horns that project along the car's frame on either side of the engine. If you can find the bracket in post 4 that would be a super cool way to attach the forward ends of the bumpers. But you can also just put a small bolt through the lip of the bumper and the quarter panel and squeeze the two parts together. So a total of 6 attachment points.

For the front you need the bracket shown below if it isn't already attached to the bumper. The bumper should have mounting points with nuts glassed in already. Mount the brackets to the bumper first, then test fit and adjust as necessary. It should be a snug fit. The bracket has captive nuts to mount to the side of the trunk just forward of the battery boxes. The bolts enter from inside the trunk. You should be able to get the brackets from our host. Then just attach the ends of bumper the same way as the rears- drill a small hole through the lip of the fender and bumper on each side, and bolt them together.

Note: these instructions are based on the assumption that your front bumper does not include glassed-in mounting points for the ends of the bumper. Most repros don't have that, although the originals do. If you need more guidance you really have to post photos of your parts.
