What would a new 911 look like if it had more traditional lines? Photoshop experts?

One of my favorite things about the 911 design has always been its dramatic downward sloping lines. With each evolution the tail lights have slowly crept up and the lines have become less pronounced.

I have zero photoshop skills but this my crude attempt at a more retro rear end on a 991. Does anyone know of any similar concepts out there? Any photoshop experts who can do a better job than my attempt?

Over the years, the rake of the front windshield has got progressively more pronounced. At the rear, the older cars drop off considerably more. The top of the bumper on my 2005 is a full 6" higher than the top of the bumper on my 1996. I think the steep drop at the rear on the older cars gives them more of the 911 look everyone remembers.

You have to bear in mind that Porsche probably couldn't do that even if they wanted to. Various jurisdictions around the world have too many regulations to meet. I suspect that there is a minimum distance from the ground for tail lights somewhere, if not here in the USA. Or some other obscure reg that would prohibit those lower lights.

Don't know about the 911, but I believe that the current Audi TT is what the 356 would look like if it was still being produced. Who knows, it might even still be rear a rear engine design!

Yeah, I thought that too. I think the Cayman's rear slope is more similar to that of an original 911. The large flares over the wheels change the look completely though.

Yeah. I assume that's what led to the current design. Even if those regulations weren't in place I wonder if it wouldn't be possible simply because of the engine size.

I'm glad the 911 has changed over the years. It can't look like a 1985 Porsche forever. In my 85, you can clearly see the VW bug influence. But the newer cars, all traces of that car are all but gone.

And it can continue to change all they want to change it. I'm not interested in a new one anyway. I prefer the non-assisted version that I already have.

Fun little project. Am I happy with what I did? Eh.....I dunno. I think there are practical/design reasons why they had to raise rear over the years, and with the 991, I think they jumped the shark with the front headlights that from a sideview jut out like MR2 headlights in an effort to lengthen the front fender lines(I cropped them I think they look so bad), and also the curves you mention, which now has a hump over the rear fender arch like a cayman, but anyway, it's fun to play:
