Engine bay colo - see photo

coloR! Wish I could fix the title. Can someone tell me what I'm looking at....my car is schwarz metallic and have seen no signs to believe it has been any other color. I started pressure washing the engine bay and this white color is showing up....am I pressure washing off the black paint or is this a sign my car used to be white? You can see it in the tunnel as well. There is what looks to be a very old sticker that gives the paint code and name for schwarz metallic. I'm confused. 1982 SC.

Where did you find the sticker? Can you post a pic of it?

I would bet your car was white from the factory.

To get an absolute answer you could try contacting Porsche.

Are you pressure washing while all of those oil connections and the oil filter base are open to the air, and therefore to water spray? If so, you're going to have water in all the wrong places.

Man if this car was white before I'll be happy. I rather the car be white anyway and now color changing back to white will be much easier.

Have you unzipped the zipper on the headliner and looked under there, or under the rear package tray? Those are 2 better sources that commonly are not changed when one may do a color job.

I believe the color sticker is not in the correct spot. Which makes me believe your car was white from the factory and then re-sprayed black and sticker applied.

My $.02

Good luck!

+1. You need to do some more sleuthing but this is making sense.

Also, thanks for the sticker pic. That is what they look like. In my 81 the sticker is in a clear plastic pocket in the front of the maintenance manual.

On my 81, red is pretty much everywhere. Not as bright red on the underbelly as on the outside but red and no hint of a light color underneath. Open the smugglers box, look under the carpets, up under the dash, etc. I did go nuts cleaning the inner front fenders once and THAT paint matched the outside in clarity.

On the other hand, and I am just guessing, could the light base paint have something to do with the metallic color application?

You can always get a certificate of authenticity from PCNA.

Keep us posted.

Check the frunk plate as well near the passenger's side headlight tube.

Which plate? the smugglers box lid? or up towards the front of the car near the passenger headlight?

+1 That's where it should be from the factory. Inside the trunk just behind the passenger side headlight

I can't find a paint code sticker in the frunk near the passenger side headlight. I'm thinking this car was white and someone did a pretty good job of changing the color to black metallic. I couldn't see much above the headliner.

I have found three pics on Google of 82SC's with the paint sticker in the engine compartment. Second recessed box in on driver's side. Although, I see many with no sticker back there.

The three members that said up by the headlight have 3.2's. It may be up there for their cars but maybe not the SC's?

Oh ok. Yea as far as I knew the correct spot was where mine is located in the engine compartment. That frunk location was new to me.

Mine is in the documentation with the sticker in a pocket. The frunk location may be the correct spot?

Keep in mind metallic paint may cover differently than a solid color. If they sprayed the trunk with the same number of passes of the metallic as with solid, it may appear more as a dusting.

Your sticker is as old as the earth. I would not discount your color has not been changed.

Open the smuggler's box. I doubt they sprayed inside of there.

On my 86 Carrera the sticker is under the carpet on the inner fender behind passenger's head light. I do not know where they usually are on an SC.
