Dash Repair New Alternative

I am in the process of restoring my SC and it came time to work on the dash. As you can see from the pictures my dash was completely gone.

I debated between getting a new dash or recovering but I was put off because of the price. I also considered fixing the cracks, applying a gesture finish and repainting the dash, but was not 100% convinced.

I started talking with my local upholster (who is also one of my tenants) about the work and he told me to take it to him, that he has done many recovering and he recommended I stayed away from leather and use marine grade vinyl.

I debated about it and decided to give him a shot a it, an this was the delivered product:

He filled the voids, used bondo to even out any imperfections an recovered. I was shocked and amazed at the final result!

Since he did such a great job I though of you guys and asked him how much will something like this will cost if someone sent him a dash to do?

He told me that he can do them for $350.00 including materials + shipping.
(He did this one for free to his Landlord !!)

I think that is a great alternative for someone who is looking to redo their dash.

You will have to ship the dash to zip code 00716 in Puerto Rico via US Postal Service that is very reasonable for shipping to PR (same as any other state). If someone is interested send me a PM. or email me at ivanuf@gmail.com.

Excellent price point IVAN. I've heard of $500+ for this sort of job.

Brother Karl,

I believe companies like AIR and Just Dash use a vacuum seal machine for their vinyl to insure a tight seal.

My main concern is how to handle the sun soaked warped areas. I am planning on re-doing the dash but I do not have a clue on how to cure the warpage. I was just going to send it in and let AIR or Just Dashes fix the warpage and re-skin in Vinyl.

Hmmm?

Mine was cracked and warped pretty bad. Each upholster have their own methods. I really was not expecting such a nice flat dash. I was prepared to buy a new dash, but the work was so good, that I am using it. I will trust his 20+ years of experience as a car upholster in the caribbean sun!

My local upholster is pretty busy, I just wanted to share my good experience with fellow members. Is not like he will be starting a web business of dash repair service, but if someone sends a dash to him he will do it just like mine.
