1980 911 SC Fuel filter replacement and bleeding procedure. Is the bleeding procedure necessary?

Im about to change the fuel filter on a 1980 SC. The Haynes workshop manual says that the fuel system has to bled after changing the filter. Its looks like a bit of a hassle as it involves taking off the air filter box in order to get at the air flow sensor lever. Is this necessary as you don't mention this bleeding procedure in the Pelican fuel filter replacement procedure?

I've never had to do this bleeding procedure BUT, to do it all you need to do is remove the air filter, not the entire airbox. Once the air filter and cover are removed you will see the lever for the sensor plate hanging down on the left side of the box. Just reach in and gently press the lever upward with the key on, and have an assistant crank the car over, it should start up after a few cranks. As soon as it starts just put the air filter back on and you're done! Be careful of the belt and fan. I know Vasek Polak once lost a necktie to the 911 fan, so use caution when reaching in and over the fan.
