Had my injectors cleaned by MR Injector
I recently sent my injectors in for cleaning. I did some reading and found two names that came up in a lot of threads. I chose MR Injector after reading a lot of comments. I haven't installed the injectors yet but I have to say they look very nice (new). One of the biggest complaints I read about others was that no paint was applied to the outside to protect them. Mine were nicely painted and individually wrapped or bagged in those heat seal bags and then all put in a larger heat seal bag. And possibly best of all they threw in 2 jolly ranchers, I mean.. who doesn't like those? I got a nice sheet showing before and after cleaning flow. None of mine were bad. The worst one was 61 and now all are 65. I'll try to post some after pics since I didn't take any before pics.

Good info, BTW, are there any telltale signs that injectors need to be treated?

There is no signs that the cleaning is needed but for just over $100 you have that piece of mind..and you get the Jolly Ranchers..

I just had the injectors in my race car cleaned. I chose R.C. Engineering because a friend had used them with good results and a local racing shop with a great reputation with fuel injected cars uses them for all their injector cleaning. Plus, their turn around time was fast and I was in a hurry.
I don't have the injectors back in hand. But I do have the test report. Code:
BEFORE AFTER Inj.# CC/Min Pattern Inj.# CC/Min Pattern -------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ 1 332.0 Fair 1 360.0 Excellent 2 347.0 Fair 2 367.0 Excellent 3 341.0 Fair 3 359.0 Excellent 4 341.0 Fair 4 362.0 Excellent 5 337.0 Fair 5 372.0 Excellent 6 349.0 Fair 6 360.0 Excellent

When I say fast, R.C. Engineering quotes 24 hours at their shop. Total time depends on how you ship and how you want them to ship back.

I'm curious, how much did it cost to get them done? My bill was $130 with the ship to costing $17 due to me placing a higher insurance value on the injectors in the event they got lost in transit. I figure if USPS screwed up, I'd get a new set of injectors rather than a rebuilt set. Last edited by cabmandone; 06-13-2015 at 06:32 PM.. |

$24 per injector if the standard top/rail feed style injectors like yours or mine. Shipping rates depend on how fast you want the injectors back.

Great info. How long do they suggest between having them cleaned and running them on the engine? IIRC, they can tend to seize if you leave them too long?

Or just use Techron once in a while. If your car runs just fine, then the injectors do not need cleaning.

I've read a lot of threads on the topic of stuck injectors. My engine sat for over 5 years while the PO tried to build his car. I must have gotten lucky. As for how often to clean I say the best thing to do is use a little preventative maintenance and run some injector cleaner occasionally and make sure you put a fuel stabilizer in if you part it for the winter.

Very important step when having the heads rebuilt
If you combine new, tight valve guides with a lean injector you have a disaster waiting to happen There's many places to get it done. I use Marren because they're a mile from my shop Cheap insurance especially when dealing with 30 year old injectors

I didn't pick RC Engineering based on cost. I asked a local top notch race shop whose cars are almost all fuel injected what company he used to clean injectors. Then I did some research on the company. After that, it was an easy choice. The turnaround time was a bonus I was willing to pay for but did not have to.

Dan J, I agree. There is a lot more to clean and proper functioning injectors than running Techron through them once in a while!

Does this apply to newer injectors only or would an older CIS system benefit as well?

Some of the very best on this site say Techron does the job. If your car runs great, why would you send them out ? If your car runs terrible and stumbles, send them out.
