16" Fuchs CNC machining.
I recently gave my Fuchs to a specialist wheel company to have them refinished. In particular, as the painted
![]() When I got the wheels back I was told that his CNC machine could not cut the rims due to the lip (???). He had only used a '3 stage polishing process' and it had not removed the pitting. I wasn't happy and after much heated discussion he admitted to me that he had yet to receive training or instruction in operating the CNC to carry out, what appears to me to be, a simple task on the simplest part of the wheels. Saying this, he seemed to have no bother machining late model wheels with much more intricate detail. Apart from just venting, I am interested to know if anyone has experience with these machines or whether there is a Fuchs program/pattern that can be easily accessed and then uploaded to the CNC lathe? Is that how these CNC lathes work? Feedback appreciated. |

That is minor pitting.
Instead of CNC, how about some sandpaper? Mine were much worse and they cleaned up nicley. Don't let a reluctant 'specialist' work on your wheels. Find somebody who is familiar with Porsche wheels and knows how to restore them. Al Reed comes to mind. P.S.(the painted center of the wheel could do with some refurbishment as well...)

Sandpaper, some black emery and a final polish. We've been doing that with motorcycle parts, cases et for years. Comes out like new.

Thanks for the feedback. Think this was as much of a vent as anything. I have already paid the equivalent of about USD 100.00 per wheel for the machining to be done, so I'm still bummed out. The service provider has said he'll redo the wheels once he gets training and tooling for his CNC. Dissapointing but could be worse. When you spend money on your baby it's nice when things are done properly, right, the first time. Seems service like that is too rare these days.

So $400?
I'd be demanding my money back.
