Finding such a car won't be difficult at all. In fact, I'm betting that browsing some PCA Regional web sites will turn up quite a few of them pictured in the latest Councourse d'Elegance. The question is are you willing to pay through the nose for one? For instance, a search of Autotrader shows a Grey 1988 911 coupe with 9005 miles that I suspect would meet your requirements - priced at $40k.

Shouldn't be hard to find, but your going to pay top dollar. Your pedigree requirement will be hard to match. The requirement you give sound like low milage cars, (you won't find too may 150,000 mile cars with no paint touchups and several owners. Most people who buy their cars in 87 are not the ones to keep it for 15 years. My brother bought a white coupe that was an 87 with 105K for $18,000. We don't have a clue who owned or care. As far as paint, it is Grand Prix white and has has several resprays on some fenders, but the PPI showed no damage. In his case, he does not care because he is reworking the entire car for Club racing and track driving. My car was an 89 that I bought almost 3 years ago for $27,500. It had 4 owners as far I could tell and both doors and the hood were resprayed, (Door dings and a wheel weight that scratched the hood at the track). It is immaculate though. Panorama always has several clean cars that are in those years that you want. Look to spend close to $30K depending on condition.

Wasn't this what nostatic was offering up for sale as a living sacrifice to his wife recently? Do a search for the words "therapy" and "control".

I have an all black '87 Carrera and got it for $17k. It had 72.5k miles, had been hit, but no major body issues. Interior is immaculate and it's mechanically sound. I would not trade mine for any car of the same vintage that only had 9k miles on it. 9k miles in 14 years is not healthy for any car, much less a 911. If you want an '87, it's a great car. But get one that has been driven and maintained. Driving is every bit as important as proper maintenance. In fact, I'd say driving the car is maintaining it. Someone who has owned a car for only 9k miles, has not even driven it enough to know what it is capable of doing or how it should be maintained.

The overwhelming desire for '87-'89 Carreras has been totally unjustified in my opinion. While the G50 is arguably a better transmission the 915 is certainly not "broken" - actually it's probably one of the greatest gearboxes in automotive history. People have lost their minds on this issue. |

Your request should be about the easiest one I've ever heard. 1 in 1000???
1987 was I believe second biggest sales year for Porsche ever,(86 was biggest), never seen one w/o sunroof, but I'm sure they exist. I was selling them in So. CA. at the time and never heard the "last hand-made" story then or since. I don't want to say "dime a dozen", but compared to say an early "S", and you don't mind normal miles, here in CA. that is a $20,000 car- not 30 or 40G. I don't know where people come up with those figures. |
