1990 C2.....what should I expect?

I'm currently looking at a '90 coupe and I would like your opinion. What issues are there with this year?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Potentially there could be a couple of problems - the dual mass flywheel (which should have been fixed if the car has high miles), oil leaks (it either will or it won't), and the distributor vent kit needs to be fitted. Make sure you get a PPI and a well-treated example, and it'll be fine. Much, much better than fine, in fact

Thanks eion. It's in a shop right now having the oil leaks fixed. The owner mentioned he wanted to fix everything before he sells it. I'm checking it out tomorrow and I'll be able to talk to the mechanic. I'll make sure to mention the dual mass flywheel and distributor vent.

You should make a big deal about it being the most troubled year of a troubled model...

...and then you should expect to get a great deal on it. Early 964's are the best bang for the buck available in the used 911 market, IMO.

The DMF is a funny one - depends on the mileage, but I'd say if it's got 75k miles or over, the DMF will either be fine or have been replaced. My car had a new clutch when I got it.

The distributor vent is pretty obvious. I would stay away from any car that hasn't had this done - anyone who is unwilling to spend $10 on the vent kit is likely to have skimped elsewhere, too.
A picture of the vent installed (taken from John Miles' excellent site, www.porsche964.co.uk):

Oil leaks are a trickier issue. Make sure you get a PPI from an independent mechanic - the *last* thing you want to do is buy a car that's in need of an engine reseal or worse.
