Best way to clean up messed up thermostat threads?

Got a thermostat from a pelican that has horrible messed up threads. Any good way to clean them up? Machine shop? What's thread pitch and is it worth fixing? I'll ask someone to post pics. Thx

There's a thread saver you can put on these to repair them. Here's a thread of what my brother did to fix his. Oil Thermostat Repair (Attempt)
