Updating The Transmission Tunnel And Console to 964/993 style

Hi everyone. working on my backdate project and I'm trying to figure out if anyone has tried to install the 964/993 tunnel on an earlier car and if it requires an obnoxious amount of modification or not. It's purely cosmetic for me as I'm trying to avoid the long shifter in a rubber boot. I'm assuming I'd have to move some things around a bit, but has this been done before? Pictures(or instructions) would be great!

backdate project and adding a 964/993 tunnel contradict each other I think

Embrace the backdate and stick with the correct look!

By the way dig the Ruf!!

Thank you both for chiming in and JacobS for the compliment! The reasoning behind looking into this is simple. The singer cars are my motivation for undertaking this project. I didn't want to backdate a 964 so here I am. It's a detail I'm looking into while I wait for everything to get done.... Which will never be fast enough!

I doubt if Singer would use the tunnel if they worked on older chassis.....they just keep what exists on the chassis they use and 'backdate' around it.
It's actually one of the things I dislike about a 1/2 million dollar job.

Thanks JacobS, but that's too much work. I was really just looking to see if it was a simple mod that had been done before. It doesn't bother me at all with the shifter on the floor. Just going through options!

The tunnel is an integral part of the tub. You are talking about stripping the car down to a bare metal tub, then cutting out the spine of the car (using a jig to maintain the squareness of the chassis) then welding in a new tunnel and rebuilding the car.

I really just wanted to install the console for cosmetic purposes. I don't want to cut up the car!

Wow, that's definitely not me. I'll be going to "endorse the backdate"!

As Rufian suggested, the BetterBodies option would be the quickest, simplest and most easily reversible (if required).

OK, I thought you wanted to change the tunnel - it does increase the rigidity of the body by being taller. Changing the tunnel involves all that work. A console on the other hand would be cake.
