83 911 Production Cab #10
|
Part #2 of 2
Last week, I was shopping around for the Smart String Systems. Of all the "where to buy" from the manufacturer website, PP was the most expensive one (+$35). As I could not believe my eyes, I send an e-mail to the customer service mentioning that something is definitely wrong as I have never seen this before (PP being the most expensive). I got an e-mail back saying that PP does not Price Match. I was not looking for a price match as I already pass my order with Pegasus, I was trying to help you A few hours latter I got another E-mail saying that they would match the price and the free delivery... Too late but I'm pissed off as this sale should have been yours in the first place.
I will discussed these 2 post with Wayne.

I support pelican parts due to the board. I know that costs money to run. So, if I use the board, I try to buy here.
Lately I have looked at competing sites, and pelican parts is not usually the cheapest. I don't buy a lot, but try to buy here. And if you are looking for generic parts, there are sites that are significantly cheaper. I regularly get $20 coupons from jegs on a $50 purchase, 20% off from other porsche sites, free shipping from almost everyone. If pelican chooses to have slower delivery, AND possibly higher prices, that's doesn't equate to success... Consider the same shipping, and more sales, discount, offers, etc. Harbor freight has mastered this. They give out coupons galore. It works. I find myself there almost weekly... Pelican is generally awesome. But as competitors turn up the heat... More discounts and freebies would be wise... |

About 80% of the parts and other items I order and plan to order I can wait the 4-5 days for it to ship.
The other 20% of the time I need the item ASAP and price ranks lower for me in that situation. If it has to be one or the other - I choose the immediate shipment option/higher price.

I have wished to live in California a few times in my life. First was when I discovered skateboarding. Second was when I started wrenching on my Porsche. Pelican Parts would make a great neighbor. If I could just walk next door and buy a small part. I wouldn't have to leave my cars on jack-stands while UPS-man makes his rounds. I have waited two weeks for some parts.
To this: "Product ships immediately at higher cost or wait 4-5 days at lower cost? Ship immediately at higher cost Wait 4-5 days before product ships at lower cost" I say neither. Open a warehouse in Jersey or Penn. 'Franchise' / 'Branch', what you ever you call it, I would love to have Pelican Parts as a neighbor. Stock it with the most desired/ ordered parts. I believe this could work for you. Let me know if you need my help with anything else. ps. I have long since given up skateboarding. But I miss it sometimes.

I agree with Bill, International shipping costs to Australia are soooooo expensive which stops me from ordering anything from PP. I source most parts through Porsche Brisbane who've been excellent and order parts in (a oil breather hose from Germany for example) free of charge. I'd recommend anyone in the Brisbane area to use them.
The Forum is a great source knowledge and experience though

I agree, I don't understand two warehouses. I ordered recently small parts for my fuel pump project and was charged just about the same amount for shipping as for the parts. The BIG problem it took over a week. Kathy told me it was due to the Labor Day holiday. If it were up to me I would lower the shipping cost, on large orders after all the shipping cost to your warehouse is included in the price of the item. How about charging the customer the shipping cost of the item and having your supplier ship direct to your customer. This would save you additional overhead handling cost etc. and you could pass the savings on to your customers. I could write more however, your business knows best. Lower shipping cost and faster delivery is what I want.

The inventory system on the website is broken or never worked. The items simply are not in stock when they say they are. Fix that before trying to fix the 'shipping' problem. The 4-5 delay signals that Pelican is drop shipping from somewhere else. Edit; Ok, 2 different California warehouses? Still doesn't make sense as it takes a week to move parts between them? California is big but not that big! ![]() And the poll is flawed, the voting results and questions won't make any sense. Please read these posts people are making and THEN decide. Like someone said saving 20% off 'shipping' on a $20 order is $4! No thanks! Last edited by Last911; 10-03-2015 at 07:56 AM.. |

Have to agree with the other OZ members, PP prices are great and the shopping experience is second to none but we can't swallow the exorbitant shipping charges

I think the poll is flawed and we don't know what we are really voting on.
It strikes me that they are trying to figure out how to keep less product in their warehouse, but have it available in a short timespan. So, they are introducing a 4-5 day wait to save (I assume) the 10-20. I say "I assume" because waiting a week to save 10% on shipping is laughable. None of us are running businesses that need "Stocking orders" of dozens of gasket sets or whatever. (well, 99% of us aren't!) I too try to use PP on every need, but often the shipping times across the country are deal killers. I too wish, as jt does, I lived in CA. (Instead of CT) Same high cost of living, same crappy traffic, but much better weather, a cool car culture, and pelican nearby can't be bad

It would be different for everyone. My 911 is an extra car and parts for it coming later are not a concern. I'm sure there are shops and/or other owners out there that need the parts quickly.. The USPS will provide FREE packaging for Priority Mail. They pick them up at your business and they are quickly delivered.. All for a reasonable cost. Small Flat Rate Box $5.95.. Padded Flat Rate Envelope $5.95.. Medium Flat Rate Box $12.95.. Most of the items I've purchased from Pelican would have fit into one of these sizes..

I ship motorcycle parts overseas almost weekly.. The prices for international shipping are high. But, if parts can fit into a smaller box they can ship USPS First Class for much less $$. The total box weight can not exceed 4 pounds..

This. Why hasn't the OP clarified what this poll is about? 10-20% of what? Now it's a sticky and we still don't really know what the question is.

As I mentioned at post #40 , sound like man/woman power shortage/cost and they could get cheaper labor to do the shipping on the week-end...
