strange clutch problem
Driving about 85, got off exit, pushed clutch in and all of a sudden it seems to be only half a pedal resistance.
Now when I take off, it wants to slip? Happened all of a sudden, no warning whatsoever. Is this a pressure plate issue or possibly flywheel? 2001 Carrera 3.4 - 6 speed.

Sounds like the pressure plate failed. It's hard to tell without feeling it though. I've not heard too much about pressure plate failure.

I have seen pressure plate failure in 996 and 997. You press on the pedal and there is no resistance for the second half of the travel. Also when you are accelerating hard, it slips because there is not enough clamping force against the clutch plate.
It is time to drop the gear box. Not an easy job on your back. You really need a lift.

I had a pressure plate diaphragm crack once. That's exactly how it acted. I could hardly make it the couple of blocks back home it was slipping so badly.
