Resurrecting another neglected 911
There are several new posts lately about new owners resurrecting cars that have been sitting for extended periods and breathing life back into these incredible cars. I'm no different as I recently posted about my newly acquired 1980 Weissach that had been sitting roughly 5 years. The information gained from these posts, and the multitude of experienced owners, is truly invaluable and I look forward to reading about each challenge.
Tonight, while my wife was handing out candy, I worked in the garage installing my freshly rebuilt Webers and preparing to start my car for the first time in 5 years. I was cautiously optimistic, with fire extinguisher nearby, as I turned the key and it fired right away. What a great feeling and sound! There's plenty more to do but, this is a huge step for this project and I was so relieved to hear it come to life. Thanks for providing such a great resource with great members willing to help us new owners learn the basics and more. Rob |

Keep those Webers clean with a new fuel filter. My recently acquired '88 had such a rusty fuel tank, the local shop wanted $500 to split the tank, clean and re-line it. Ended up buying a new tank from PP for $350 and replacing the injectors. Should be smooth sailing for the next 25 years. Have fun!

Yep, I installed a new fuel filter after I pumped 15 gallons of old fuel out. No rust in the tank fortunately...perhaps having gas in it helped.
I see you're a VW owner also. My '67 Is currently for sale...need to make room for this project. |

Thanks for the help! Got it figured out now.
Here it is the day I picked it up. ![]() Carb work. ![]() There's a lot wrong in this pic (fuel filter/lines, pressure regulators, etc.) all of which will be cleaned up with quality pieces prior to putting this car on the road. Just trying to get it running so I can check all mechanicals and make a list of things to do. ![]() Here's a pic of my VW's engine compartment so, you can imagine it pains me to see this mess! ![]() |

Trash that pressure regulator. They're not accurate and they can leak gas.

Looking for some help identifying some of the components on my engine. The PO knew nothing about the engine and I'm trying to figure out what I have. It has SSI exchangers but, I can't find any markings on the muffler.
![]() ![]() Also, is it possible to tell if the cams are stock grind or not? I can use a dial indicator to measure lift, just curious if there are any visible markings with the valve covers off? Sorry for the double post! Rob |

It's been a while since I posted and thought it time for an update. I removed the engine and trans yesterday...first time for a 911...other than some stripped CV bolts, it wasn't that bad. Thanks to the incredible amount of information on this forum, I felt prepared and everything went well.
The plan is to degrease everything, powder coat the tins, replace oil lines, new sending units, adjust valves, change plugs, chain cover gaskets, address the triangle of death, and a few other items. The EFI system should be here this week but, I've got a bit of work before that goes on. I'm just getting started and there's lots more to go. This site has been a huge inspiration and I'm looking forward to getting this one back on the road soon. Time to place another order and get busy cleaning. ![]() ![]() |

So, I've been busy on my to-do list and making some progress. I did my first valve adjustment and, thanks to DRACO's discovery, I learned a lot about rocker shafts/seal installation.
I've met some great people on this site with incredible skills. Evidenced by new engine harness from Dennis (Timmy2) and refinished fan by Mark Motshagen. Also, last week I sent a few pieces to Shaun at Tru6 for refinishing. I'm sure there'll be more of that to come. Here's some parts and progress pics from the last few weeks. New engine harness. ![]() Refinished fan. ![]() Shroud painted, crank trigger pulley, refinished valve and chain covers, rebuilt alternator, new gaskets/seals where possible. There's a support tab broken on the SSI and I need to weld in an O2 bung. The left side heater duct for the back date fits terribly and I need to deal with that. I'm looking for an OE piece if possible? ![]() ![]() I started assembling some of the EFI bits and ran into a small setback with one of the intake manifolds. Jenvey responded quickly and I should have the correct manifolds Monday. ![]() I went through the same search as others looking for 15" tires and decided to abandon that search for now. The factory wheels will be stored for future refinishing and use. So, I ordered a set of Euromeister in 16x7/8 and they're currently at the shop being refinished. I love what you have done ! I am thinking about the Jenvey set up for my hotrod . any issues with
holding a low idle ? For the top end power the screen filters can play havoc on the air intake they were original to the DFV Cosworth 3.0 f1 v8 and are known to disturb the airflow . Just my thoughts . Thanks again for posting your great work
