What is this switch?
Okay, I was rebuilding my pedal cluster and noticed this switch underneath the center console..it has a lever on it...what is this?? is this my brake switch?? if so, I don' remember disconnecting anything from my brake cluster to this switch...any ideas if this needs to be reconnected?? or how its connected to the brake cluster??

Well this is unusual..This switch is mounted and not even close to my pedal cluster..in fact the last I check I had brake lights.. what year is your pedal cluster??

That is a pic I copied from a Pelican post, after using the search function. If I remember correctly, this is the brake-light switch, used on the early 911s, later replaced by a switch mounted on the master cylinder. You do not identify what year your 911 is..always a good thing if you are troubleshooting. I suspect that your car had a new/later master cylinder installed, at some time, and the master cylinder switch was hooked up to drive the brake lights. That would explain the working brake lights. However, it does look like the older switch was purposefully mounted in this new location for reasons yet to be known.....maybe others, more knowledgeable, will chime in.

The mechanical switch which you show is the only switch on earlier models ('73 and earlier and maybe mid-year models), but, I believe, it was also on some year cars that had the pressure switches as well. Point is, if your brake lights work, they are being activated by a different switch which will be on the MC.

I am sure your correct...I was just getting ready to put the cables back on the cluster, and decided to take an I Phone picture of the tunnel underneath the console...and this is what I saw..it has lever that moves and I thought it needed a spring of some kind...but as you can see its mounted like it has a purpose..

I'm sure he had a purpose for it. No idea what. Start with what could have touched it, where it is located. Throttle cable? Clutch cable? Handbrake? Heater control lever?

I have to honest..that doesn't work either...but the lever is movable and it looks exactly like a brake switch..Attached is another photo...it looks stock to me

Since you have an 81, I suspect the po added the switch because the pressure switches were acting up. Do as suggested, follow the wires. You might want to try and depress the switch lever by hand and see if the brake lights come on, just for kicks. Sounds like it is not needed.
Just noticed in your picture, it appears the switch is affixed to a bracket inside the tunnel, is that correct? If so, maybe the po did rig it up to the e-brake lever and warning light as it's in a position that would not get activated by the brake pedal. Activate the lever and see if the brake warning light/e-brake dash light comes on.

Just rebuilt my G50 pedal cluster, that switch is for the cruise control as Timmy and Rob said. Its activated by the right most attachment on the main pedal shaft (right behind where the gas pedal is)

Now I am confused on what kind of car my SC really is..My current pedal cluster and my old one does not even have that lever, which looks correct...My cruise control does not work currently so that makes sense..My SC was originally Burgundy then the PO painted it black, and half the interior is white and beige seats...all with only 70 k documented miles on it total, so who knows what else is not right..
