What else should I be doing while I have the engine out for clutch replacement?
Hi-
I know I know this has already been asked recently but for whatever reason I can't find the thread thru the search engine. But my question is this- I will be dropping the engine and tranny in my '84 Carrera over Christmas to get at the clutch and clean up the engine bay. What else should be done (maintenance or otherwise) while I have it all apart? Thanks for your response or the link to the thread where this was already asked....! BG

If it hasn't been done already, upgrade the HeadTemp sensor to the two wire type. The OEM one is a single wire and tends to get a bad ground causing erradic starting and running conditions.
IIRC - the head temp sensor cuts out the ignition when the head temp goes too hot. My mechanic changed this out for no labor while I had my clutch replaced. There are some other things to do, I just don't recall them. You might want to look into replacing the fork (I forget how much this is) on the clutch while your there. It's a relativly cheap part, but if it breaks you need to R&R the engine ($250). This was the reason for my clutch replacement. ![]()

Good time to replace plugs, wires, etc. and to do a valve job.

In addition to everything else mentioned. Check the fuel lines. If you see cracking, now is a good time to replace. It's also a good time to either replace or remove the engine sound pad, look for easily repairable oil leaks (sender on front of motor) and look to see if the cam oil lines have the "bracket" update. It's easy to add $$ with WYAIT (While you are in there) parts.
