Windshield seals in Miami

Hi all

It's been raining for 3 solid weeks in Miami and I've developed some foggy gauges, foggy third brake light, and some slight condensation under my rear windshield. I just finished replacing the tail light lenses, and given the state of some of the rubber, I think I need to go through and replace a bunch of seals.

I've already purchased the fender to cowl seal from our host. Can you all recommend any others I should do? Trunk is done, engine compartment looks good.

Does anyone know someone in Miami who can do my front and rear glass at a fair price? What price would that be?

Is water leaking into the car from the windows?

If you replace them be sure thay are the more expensive OEM Porsche seals not the aftermarket seals.

The gauges are not sealed and usually only fog up because of excess moisture in the trunk area.

Nope

I don't see any water leaking in, nor do I see any dampness, but the rubber around the windshield seems to pull slightly back from the edge in some sections and I see where someone put some rubber compound in there, I'd like to get them redone as a precaution.

The ones behind the rear glass are clearly due to where the rubber seals come together under the metal clasp.

I have a targa and have gone through this here in Austin. Replacing seals definitely has helped me. Adjusting windows also (not your issue, but still.) I have not tackled my windshield seal yet, but I did go in and reinforce it with some 3M Bedding and Glazing Compound that someone suggested to me, and it seems to have slowed the leaks down a lot. Also, read the posts on here how your aluminum window trim (embedded in the rubber) is used to hold the windshield seal in proper alignment with the frame - important. You can shape/adjust it by tapping it with a wooden shim.

Thanks for the great tips

I used to go to Mercedes Autobahn back in the day, there are a gang of decent mechanics around there. I will go check him out.

Looks like the sun is trying to peek out today finally. I was contemplating moving.

Don't be reluctant to replace the windshield seal and the rear window seal. Both of these frames on the car are NOTORIOUS for harvesting rust. ANY signs from these windows that you have a problem with sealing should be taken care of.

The windshield is quite easy. The placement seal on the glass and aligning the curves in the seal with the curves in the glass IMO is a bit challenging. Use the old seal as a guide and mark the center of it on the glass (top or bottom of windshield, doesn't matter) with a piece of tape to give you a reference where the center/joint of your new seal should go. The hardest part is committing to a location and the actual cutting of a small hole in the seal to pass thru the annoying wire for the radio antenna!
