Window Troubleshooting

Hi Pelicans,

So my passenger's side window in my 86 used to come up slower than the driver's side. Then it was fine. The other day it would come down, but when I clicked the lever upward, I had to click it several times for it to start moving. Sometimes I would click and it wouldn't move at all.

I shut off the car, walked away, and came back and it was working fine.

What are the first things you'd check? Bad switch? Bad ground? Bad motor?

Thanks!
Martin

Don't you have 2 window switches for the passenger side window, 1 in the drivers door and 1 in the passengers side door? Does one of them work better than the other?

Pop the switches loose and make sure all the spade connectors are on tight and making good contact. If window works better some times than others, just opening and shutting the door could break or make the loose connections.

My passenger window switch was doing that. You can take them apart and clean them. I took one of my old ones apart, it had disintegrated internally and was just luckily making enough contact to still work. I ordered new ones ($39 each for genuine Porsche) from Pelican, replaced all three, and am happy to have that little issue resolved.

Really great feedback guys, I feel pretty dumb, never even occurred to me to try the other switch. Jeez I need a vacation.

I was struggling with the passenger window switch on my '88. I replace switches and looked at pages of schematics and finally figured out that the wire going to the passenger door switch was kinked and had nearly broken, However it would randomly connect and disconnect and cause the switch to work for a while then stop...very frustrating.

Check the switches as suggested but occasional slow operation is a sign the motor is failing(worn brushes)
The switch failures are generally either working or not working
