Embarrassed to ask....but I need some help on this
I am trying to recal where the tethers attach to open the deck lid hinge. I know that one side attaches to the main hinge bolt. Does the other side go the the deck lid piston shock mounting point? Seems like the only logical place...

It mounts to the rear decklid mounting bolt.

No such thing as a bad question except for the unasked question.
That is not a tether but a grounding strap.

On my 1973, there is a strap on each hinge. The strap ends go under bolts that connect each end of the hinge to the car.

It's ground wire on mine for the engine bay light. It can go anywhere metal. If you have a FG decklid, you need to do something else......
