In my opinion, Wevo is one of those (very rare) aftermarket companies that you can place blind faith in, and just jump. Everything I've seen from their product line has been best-in-class, built to standards on par with those of Porsche's engineering department at the top of its game. I hate to gush about any company (they can only disappoint me, now
), but Wevo earns it. Very smart company. Very smart products. I've got their shifter, coupler and gateshift. I hope to eventually have their motor mounts and swaybar mount replacements. That's not to knock the Stromski product. I've seen it, but haven't used it. But I put the Wevo in my own car. (And when I ran the Open Track Challenge, I asked Wevo if I could put their decal on my car, not the other way around.)

Maybe we should put them head to head in a cage match to the death to decide the winner.
A shift-off, no holds barred!

Maybe simply use the tighter-tolerance 914 inserts into a stock coupler

The brass inserts, zero clearance bushes and some other minor tweeks make it shift like a dream, even better than my 993 w/ RS shift linkage

I agree with Jack in general re Wevo (also SRP).
But as Tyson says, nothing beats an experiment...

I have got the Stomski coupler and it looks pretty good and just like the pictures of the Wevo product. I think the universial joint is a standard aircraft part that both companies modify to do the Porsche job. Some one should buy both and run a test.

I have a question for those of you that have tried one of the Stomski or Wevo couplers, or have used the 914-style bushings in a stock coupler. Do you notice any vibration (and noise) from the shifter at any point in the rev range, or any fore/aft movement of the shift lever when getting on and off of the throttle?
I am thinking of street car application here, not a race car. Other cars I own are sensitive to reducing the slop in the linkage and I don't want to create a problem (buzzing lever) by using one of these. Thanks, JR

JR, I have the wevo shift coupler and shifter in my 930. It shifts very well and is a great improvement over stock in terms of shifting ease and precision. That said, with the Wevo parts, transmission sounds are transmitted through the coupler resulting in a slight buzzing sound. It is only noticeable when "lugging" the car, being in a higher gear at low rpm. In terms of audibility, I can't hear it with the radio on or window open.

I have the Stromski and it takes out a lot of slop. I have driven a 911 witht he Wevo coupler but it also had the Wevo shifter housing so it wouldnt be a fair comparison. Both couplers are very similar in design so I dont think you can lose. Add the Robotek spring shifter and you got yourself a smooth( for a 915) shifter.

I ended up getting the stomski because I was ordering some other bits from them at the same time. Dont really think there can be a huge difference betwixt the two. FWIW the stomski piece is plated the factory yellow cadmium color, the rubber boot seal is red and is a very smooth piece. Doubt there is any other difference between them and I believe they both cost the same.
Trident racing in the UK sells a gaggle of linkage pieces and I am sure if you are into the make your own part category you could get what you need there.

They are very similar in appearance to what Summit sells for drag cars' steering u-joints. They were listed as a "helicopter joint" on the parts sheet included. I paid $68 for the bare part and then you'd have to go from there but its even the same color arrangement as stated above.

I think the Wevo coupler is beefier than the Stromski. The old SRP coupler and Stromski were the same size. I switched from the SRP to the Wevo a few years back when it came out. I noticed a slight improvement, as it felt tighter than the SRP.

or Stomski: Stomski Racing link... Family resemblance indeed! Looks like Stomski makes a coupler for these and that's that.

Kenikh, that summit link is dead and I don't find it using keyword search. Can you see if your Google-fu is stronger than mine and you can find the u-joint again? I've got a welder and a plan...
