I had the same issue. It was the ECU. I put my buddy's in my car. It fired right off. I know common practice is to put your's in another car, but we cheated....and we won.

LOL. It was my techs ECU, and he had a few lying around. I definitely would not have used one from someone's car that would have been used for daily transport.

This PDF has info on testing the AFM and temp sensor > page 9. I hope the link works.
This is a copy of what used to be the FR WILK site. I went to search for it and it is gone??? https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&ved=0ahUKEwj_8qjOrfrLAhVISCYKHdGODewQjhwIAw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fe28-535i.com%2Ftechnical%2FAFM%2520Repair.pdf&psig=AFQjCNGHWSwJofnYdiFw8Vi78wiee7qwuw&ust=1460043881158322&cad=rjt

Who are SoCal 3,2L owners sending ECU's to for repair?
My original 28 pin ECU requires a second tap of the key to fire. |

Mato,
If the second AFM causes the same issue, double check the wires from AFM to the ECU. Possible short, got mice in the area? Also seems to point to the ECU, but check the easy stuff first. |

It could be the ECU not reading the AFM properly. As others said swap in another ECU. It's safe for a short test.

Check your spark out of the coil again. It needs to be blue, snappy and should jump at least 1/2". If yours is orange and barely jumps 1/8", a new coil is in order. Replaced a lot of them lately for no start issues.

Hey guys,
Thank you for your Support. As it turnes out, it really is a faulty ECU! Had it serviced and they found some cold soldered Joints (which we did not, unfortunately). Whatever... he is running again! Alle the best and thanks a lot, again! Mato |
