Scratching sound in steering column?
'86 Carerra Coupé.
I've recently developed a plastic scratching sound in the plastic shroud of the steering column when turning the steering wheel. I've been in there to fix the turn signal/high beam switch and have since also added a momo steering wheel. Each time I've been in there I haven't been able to located the source. Any ideas? Thanks boys. |

It is two things, but most likely the Steering Wheel contact ring.
The other as a consequence is the wiper/horn contact switch. ![]() I would replace the first with new that later will help but if the first one is worn it will soon make that annoying scratching sound.

Awesome,
I had the same noise. Now I know what to look for.

Add some conductive grease. Solved my same issue.

Counterclockwise?

My sleeve disintegrated and fell through. Just took the steering wheel off and pushed a new one on.

If the above suggestions don't do it. It could be that the plastic bearing may be toast. There is a steel sleeve you can push in. Call Glenn Sager at Pelican. Extension 240. Relatively painless, just remove the steering wheel and a few other bits if I remember correctly.
