Thanks to John Walker
Dropped off my '84 last Thursday at John Walker's Workshop in north Seattle for a new clutch and synchros plus a "post purchase" inspection to include a look at the fuel lines and triangle of death. Picked it up at noon today and it feels like a new car. Easy pedal on both the clutch and the accelerator, silky-smooth clutch action, shifts like a dream and should improve as the synchros wear in (according to JW). He also put the stock airbox back on and a new (Bosch rebuilt) alternator since the bearings were bad in the old one. The synchros were replaced on 1, 2, 3, and 4th. The difference is more than night and day and I was happy to write the check. Seattle/PNW folks are lucky to have John's expertise! Now I can drive it anywhere, anytime with no worries. Thanks again John.

yep good job deserves a check written with no hesitations. People nowadays seem to appreciate good quality work less and less. Kudos to both ends here.

Works on cars all day, and then spends his personal time online helping strangers with their cars.
The world is a better place with guys like John Walker.

I had one just like that in yellow once. When it ran, it was sweet.

I always love visiting John's workshop to see his ongoing projects (he fixes our cars so he can do what he REALLY enjoys). For instance a very cool 'woody' custom wagon. The wood wasn't finished but judging by the grain it will be gorgeous when complete.

I've been on this forum for years and I can't tell you how many times I've seen positive posts about this shop.

I wish we had a shop like that up here! Very grateful for John's help here on the forum - his posts are very instructive and he has personally answered my questions. Thanks to him, my transmission no longer leaks!

Last night I went out to the garage and looked inside the engine compartment just for fun. When John put the engine back in he tidied-up all the hoses and wiring with small zip ties. It was obvious that he cares about getting it right the first time. Supposed to be another warm day here so I'm going to go break-in the new synchros!

My post on John's work here.
John always goes the extra distance - you are in for one item, and he goes ahead and performs a few "while I'm in there" tasks without charge. My post above explains my approach to any mechanic, and only Ross Poke at Poke's cycle (Dewey's as well) had the same excellent holistic approach to the work. So when my top end had to be done, there was only one guy on my list. You can write a check without thinking twice - you know it is worth every penny and more. LAST THING!!!!!!! Greenwood Car Show, something John puts A LOT of time into, is June 25th this year. You may not be aware of John's Packard streak but you ought to see the cars that appear that day in Seattle - folks empty their secret garages with some amazing iron. Check it out and take a few to see John's workshop as well.

I think I'll be back from taking my son on a Man Trip to Stuttgart in June (factory tour booked and museum visit too. Rent a Porsche Drive car for an hour as well) so I'll take the Cab and make it a day.

Cannot understand why John has not opened up a shop in Atlanta, GA and travels back and forth!! Bummer. Sadly, its too expensive to pack up my 1973.5T, send it to John and say, "FIX IT" without incurring the cost of shipment. But if I could, I know the car is in great hands. John's the man!!!!

I feel very lucky to have "Doctor" John in my neighborhood and my '74 911 and '89 Carrera are his "patients" and run perfectly thanks to him. I'm just glad warm weather is back so I can stop in when I see his garage door open, I always feel bad when I beat on it, knowing I'm interrupting him. Greenwood Car Show is coming, I'm not missing it this year, my new wife works Saturdays!

I purchased my Espresso Brown `87 Carrera coupe from a guy in Seattle in May 1998, the car was service by John Walker's shop, I still have the license plate rim with the Washington plate hanging on the wall in the garage. Bought it with 15,552 miles, now just shy of 100K. I've been toying with the idea of selling it in recent years but haven't had the heart to do it yet. I don't have a shop I have a relationship with I've just been doing it myself all these years. Learned a lot from this BBS, the old Porschelist-Rennlist.
