996 and 986 engine block the same?
I can't remember how deep the parts sharing between the 986 and 996 goes. Does anybody know if the early 996-01 models with 3,4 engine shares its engine block with the early 2,5 Boxsters?
I think they aren't the same, but I'm not sure. So who has paid enough attention to the water boilers to answer my question? |

If that's true I may have found a loop hole in the insane danish car taxes. You see engine transplants are only "legal" if you don't go up on HP more than 20%. If you go past 20% HP increase it means new tax. However it's legal to modify your original engine as much as you like as long as it retains the original standard engine block... So if the 996 engine is based on the same block as the 986 one could transplant a 996 engine into a 986 without new tax

Same here in Finland. If you like to chance the engine to such an engine that has never orginally been in that kind of car model, the dispalsement must not increase more than 25%, the power must not increase more than 20% and the wheight only 10%. Otherwise you have to get exceptional permit from our inspection authority. That is not impossible (I have one

Oh well first I have to wait for the 986 prices to come down. As it is now a 96/97 will cost around 74000 Euro and up.
