Rust Replacement Panels for Fender Bottoms?
Almost rust free '77 except 3 bad spots. Bottom of both left and right fenders and a tennis ball size hole in the pan on passenger side.
Does anyone sell new bottom pieces of the fenders to cut the old rust out and weld in? Do I have to buy a full fender, and if I do, is it better to cut and weld on old fender or just use the new complete piece? Is this the replacement piece on the belly pan hole? Part #: SIC-501-006-00 Repair Panel for Bottom Rear of Front Inner Fender SIC50100600 - SIC-501-006-00 | Pelican Parts I realize the oil lines would need to be removed to weld in the belly pan piece, but how hard is it to get that curved piece welded in properly? ![]() ![]()

A flat piece of sheet metal will work to patch the bottoms of your front fenders. Assuming, that the rust is not a lot worse on the back side of the panels.
To do it right you really need to remove the fenders and assess the entire area. Not sure if that bottom fender piece is still available separately from the fender.

You need to get the fenders off and oil lines out of the way and start removing the undercoating around the corrosion with a 4" angle grinder/wire wheel until you see bright clean metal.

I don't think you can get the panel to repair the bottom of the fenders anywhere except here:

Beat me to the source by 3 minutes. That's the second time that has happened today!
Porsche 911/912 I think the bottom of the fender is the least of your worries. Last edited by SCadaddle; 04-25-2016 at 06:28 PM.. |

Thanks for leads everyone.
It looks like Wolf Restoration only makes the fender bottoms for F body cars, but I will contact them to make sure. It seems a shame to cut a perfectly good repop fender just to weld on the fender bottom. I assume that's the best route as my original fenders fit the car. If anyone has some damaged G body fenders that are good on the bottoms, please let me know.

I hate to see this. It reminds me of my car which is still on a rotisserie in my shop while the motor sits in my closet in bits.
Get a good awl and start poking around. I think you are looking at replacing part of the floor pan and rockers as well. Look around the pedal cluster, A-arm mounts, front tank support and battery tray, rear longitudinals, kidney and torsion tube. Unfortunately, I agree with the others. The more you peel back, the more you'll find. If you need just a portion of a panel, post in the classifieds here. I've had good luck sourcing small parts of panels from folks cutting up cars. Good luck!
