No steering lock after front end rebuild ?

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this.
Obviously done something wrong, Ive had the car out and it drives fine.
First outing in six months, couple of pics after a wash, funny thing was most of the dirt came off with a good hose.

Provide a bit more information. So, you removed the steering rack from the aluminum crossmember in the front, and removed the steering shaft from the u-joint in the smugglers box?

Also, when you say "no steering lock" do you mean that the steering column does not lock when you remove the key and turn the wheel? Or do you mean that turning the steering wheel with the car running from all the way left to all the way right does not ever hit an end?

Assuming you mean the steering column doesn't lock with the key out, and assuming you removed the rack from the steering shaft in the smuggler's box forward, that should have nothing to do with your problem.

The steering column lock is inside the car under the dashboard, attached to the ignition.

Not sure how long you've owned your car, but when I first bought mine I didn't think the steering lock worked, either. Unlike most cars where you only have to turn the wheel a few degrees before the lock engages, on my 911 I have to turn the wheel damn near 1/2 turn before the lock engages. Give it a shot - I bet it still works just fine.

ditto the steering lock is in the column, the closest i have had to your problem is having the lock out,and then i didnt get it in fully, so when i took the key out it wouln't lock. If you have only worked on the front end, and no where near the column, it should be fine....
