Lightbulb 2.7 Alternator install. Thoughtsand advice.

After reading many threads. My idea would be to double nut alternator studs. Pre-fit, center and tighten alt/housing assembly. Thread wires through air duct and tighten washers and nuts over installed and much more tightened nuts on alt/housing. Roger

The problem with this strategy is that you cannot reach the alternator electrical connections through the small air deflector duct. I have not had the alternator stud nuts loosen as they snug against the plastic air deflector housing with lock washers. I have considered making a wire loom that would take the alternator wires to a convenient single plug (or maybe separate spade connectors) outside the air deflector to ease removal of the alternator/fan/housing combo for engine cleaning. If you try your plan let us know how it works.

That's a damm interesting idea Targalid. Given a quick disconnect, am wondering if the housing will come out with the air duct attached?

I am pretty sure it does. The whole problem with removing the assembly is the need to disconnect the wires: the ground cable and the wires to the alternator. Except for the ground cable, the air deflector has to be moved forward to give access to the alternator connections. Otherwise I think the whole deal would come out as one piece.

I slid my air duct into engine, connected wires to alternator and then slid the duct onto alternator and fastened nuts. Tedious , but not a big deal.

I recently did this, using a mil-spec connector....i will see if i can find a pic.
